Have enjoyed Cuban Cigars on and off ( mostly on ) since the late 90s, because they were the best, right ?
( admittedly, those around the early 2000s were were very much ‘hit or miss’ )

However, I have read and been told the non CCS have improved A LOT in recent times.

i would like to now expand my horizons and start testing the ‘New World’ waters, but with more than a little surety that I will not be wasting my money, given the current crop of Cuban cigars are now generally outstanding across the range ( depending on preferences )

My tastes - Full and rich with spice, with a transition through flavours. ( not much to ask for, hey )

    Suggestions please ......

P.S. I prefer the Corona Gorda to Robusto size.

      I second those +:
La flor Dominicana - a lot of good smokes at very good prices, try the chisels and the chisel D’Oro, and finally their star the Andalusian Bull is an AWESOME cigar.
Kristoff makes some nice cigars at very decent prices too.
Finaly I recently tried the Bespoke gran cafe lancero - GREAT cigar.

+2. I really really enjoy the Oliva Serie V Melanio. Remember as well with NC?s, there is also a huge variety of Maduro?s out there, many of which are Maduro versions of the ?normal? version.

IMO, NC?s do Maduro?s infinitely better than Cubans do. Most certainly adds to the ?richness?.

I do not have enough experience to comment on NC's but whilst many Maduros may be great there are some companies that achieve this look through dying their leaves the shade they desire. Yuk! I guess sticking to the better known brands should avoid that but I would recommend PJ's inside tips - he probably has the widest NC experience here.

            Agreed.

NC is certainly more of a mine field!

If you are looking for full bodied you have so many options. The choice is eye watering.

To add to the above i would recommend looking at

              La aroma de cuba
              Anything roma craft
Opus x and other stuff by arturo fuente
Caldwell cigars are very good too. I would recommend the 'all out kings'.
Cain habano are great but need a bit of rest.

With ncs you will waste some money at some point. Theres so much to try and you arent going to like them all. Get lots of singles and give them a bash. Despite cuban production being better recently, the quality control and consistency on most of these nc brands puts them to shame. You never get a plug and every stick will basically behave and taste the same...

I think this was an issue back in the boom but from what ive heard from admittedly youtube interviews with manufacturers this is much less common now and doesnt happen with the sort of sticks we are recommending here.

Glad to hear this practice has died a death, at least on known brands.

I'd probably triple-back the Olivia V series - sounds exactly what you're after

My local retailer has the Olivia V Double Robusto .... already anxious to try.

So much to learn. The anticipation in all that lies before me is ‘mouth watering’ !
