But I have a bunch of sticks I acquired from 2004 to smoke through!

Just noticed I joined the forum in 2012 but didnt post until 2017. Wonder why...?

Now I apologise as I dont seem to shut up.
I had a lovely experience the other evening. I reached for a bottle of wine - a 2002 auzzie shiraz of some note- and realised its been with me since i bought it at an Oddbins on the HOrseferry Road (long since closed). Its the last vintage they made using corks not screw caps....and its the last bottle of that vintage that i own. And it gave me flashbacks to then and many life events its been 'with me' for, and how i am now enjoying it.

Smokes often are the same..... I especially those boxes bought abroad, or those sticks taken abroad to consume...

i buy now, and as i can afford, so that i can enjoy in future. Who knows what the future might hold. Happy or sad i may need good cigars and good smokes!

I'd agree with this based on my experience so far. There doesn't seem to be an improvement for ageing beyond five years, in fact, some of the 20+ year old sticks that I've smoked have been quite dull in flavour, almost ashy like a cigarette. This is all highly subjective of course, but for me, five years, give or take works nicely for my palette.

I've had some real beauties with a lot of aging on them. Bolivar Coronas Gigantes and ERDM Grandes de Espana from early 2000s immediately spring to mind.

Agreed, had a 99 Cuaba last week that I was still enjoying the next day!

I like ‘em young and I like ‘em old. I would love to try one rolled in front of me & smoked immediately.
