  • Sharing cigars with the wife

Being new to this, we have always shared cigars so we can try different stuff, and also for economy. It's quite nice to have another past time to share and gives us an hour or so of quality time with just chatting and relaxing. I'm sure as we get on (already up to 44 cigars in the collection) we will develop our own tastes and favourites, but I think we will continue to smoke together rather than alone.

How many of your significant others enjoy a cigar too?

My right hand is very partial to a fine habanos
Only the impossible is worth the effort.

MLW will try every cigar that I smoke and have an opinion on it, her favourite so far appears to be an aged Cohiba! She will sometimes smoke a small cigar if she's half cut.

Nope. Sometimes she's happy to see me go out for a cigar. She's tried one or two only to screw up her face or cough profusely. Happy days.

Mine hates smoking, though she used to smoke cigarettes when younger.

Hope she doesn't end-up like my first wife - we split up when we were 24, just after this photo was taken...

Mrs C loves the smell, is tempted to try them after a few drinks, but cant abide the smell of Partagas!

Well, here’s how it went in our partnership:
                          - A short time after we met, we visited my fathers attick to look for some cutlery. Here she found my old fly tying kit - a small box with few insignificant feathers. AND WOW, I rediscovered the art of fly making and my collection grew exponentially over the next few years. SHE came to hate it and herself for having discovered that box.

                          - A short time after we moved to Brasil , She one day said, “hey look at those guys flying over the mountains in those parachutes”. AND WOW, I discovered the art of paragliding, and it’s been stuck with me ever since. My hunger for new gliders etc. is directly proportional with the discovery of new materials and gliders every year. SHE came to hate it and herself for having looked to the sky on that fateful day.

                          - Last year she beconned me to go to Cuba. I didn’t really want to, mainly because I thought it was very similar to Brasil in all things. But we went. In Havana we visited the Partagas factory of course - part of the heritage. She tried to and rolled a decent cigar, and while she rolled, I smoked one. AND WOW, I discovered the art of cigar smoking and collecting. AND my collection grew exponentially since then. SHE came to hate it and herself for having brought me to Cuba.

BUT somewhere in between all those years, I developped a passion for wine. AND my wine cellar grew (not exponentially but steadily based on sound purchasing). SHE came to LOVE me even more for that, - she doesn’t bother with ordinary wines, but the rare gems she savors with great pleasure.

in a marriage there’s both salt and pepper, but in the end all tastes fall into place

My 'wine collection' goes as far as what the Sunday Times wine club has sent me. Tried a few subscription club type things and really liked what they choose. Probably blasphemy, but I like it enough to enjoy it.
