This is definitely a civilised place to learn about all things cigar related and in time share your own experience. Only thing you'll find if you stay is that your pockets may not be deep enough!

Will the Real Fauhiba Stand Up.

Indeed. The sticks do look a bit weathered, but they could be 20+ years old, based on the band. A look at the cap/head would be helpful. But from what I can see, the bands look about right, with the exception of the mark above the second “a” in “Habana.”

Then again, as most aficionados know, the bands (and boxes) can be genuine while the sticks they adorn are fake.

It’s a real conundrum, it is.

Names Jay, Ray Jay, and I prefer me fauxhibas in glass-top boxes, I do.

            Moving the ball forward.

Hmmm, several of you lads make a good argument for “fake,” including the one put forward by the rarely seen around these parts, ol’ stevietheboy - One of the forums foremost authorities on fake puros.

Below is a picture of a “genuine” band lifted from a well-regarded website on all things cuban. What do you think? Is that a slight line dividing the dots from the gold?

I agree wholeheartedly with your wanting to see the caps as that is often a giveaway. I can't enlarge your picture on my work PC but it looks as if that's the edge of the yellow colour where its laid over the base material of the band.

                And here's a couple of old sticks from 2005 (sig5) and 2001

                These are legit.

The line up is a bit squiffy but the band paper still looks better quality

here is an idea.... one of the sticks in the original post looks to be very badly split. It will never smoke particularly well in that state. If you are sufficiently curious pick the worse conditioned stick and split it open.

The real deal will be high quality long filler without stems and woody bits. If you have anything other than that, then it is highly likely not to be what it might look to be.

Now then.... if it is long filler, it still may not be Cohiba. I have had the pleasure of buying a box of exceptionally well put together fakes, long before I knew any better, and do you know what some were just fine. I smoked a bunch of them and they were enjoyable. Others were utter dogrockets. Some were rolled so tight you could use them as a weapon, others I know from splitting a few were packed with short filler. I used them as humidor ballast for 15 years or more... they helped maintain a humidor while I wasnt really partaking for a long old time.

old cohiba bands are a lot thinner than they are these days... but i agree that there is too many question marks

Back to the band's. The colour looks a bit too pale. Not the rich colour. Also the Cohiba is too low in the white box. Not centred vertically.

Right. I noticed the band on the stick in the last picture does not align perfectly, like the one in the original post. Cuban QC back in the day was not the best, so I would not be surprised to see such om a legit stick. Just sayin’
