I was on La Palma two years ago, where you can't get ANY Cubans at all... none... I looked everywhere... BUT, there is a nice tabacalera, that grows it's own tobacco and makes La Palma puros as long fillers. It's a mixed bag, some of them taste great, others not so much, but the price is great and it's a unique cigar I would always recommend to try.

The cigar is called El Sitio. Look out for it while you are there and buy a single, if only for the novelty.

I was given one for free in Tenerife, 'not so much' as you said

I bought two boxes back then. 2 out of 3 had a nice creamy flavour with nutty notes, but the other 3rd was mostly bitter. I only had one churchill when I was on the island, which was fantastic. The robustos were a bit more mixed.

I remember this from COTM some time back, decent smoke from memory. Packed a fair nicotine punch though.

Correct, I got a second box of robustos for the COTM. I think the reception was mixed, but not generally bad.

I tried a couple of other local cigars from a local manufacturer, but the El Sitio was the only one that was interesting.

By coincidence the first time I went there I bought Upmanns, a box of No 2

seeing the notes on El Sitios I was given a nice box of 5 panatellas and I quite like them, something a bit different.
