I watch a lot of TV, self confessed couch potato here [emoji112] so you can imagine my horror when the TV powered up but failed to provide an image, confusion turned to frustration to disbelief and then finally acceptance of the inevitable forking out of the hard earned.

Took the thing to repair shop where the guy charged me ?35 to look at it. Called up for the diagnosis and it was ?95 to fix. Hmmm.

It?s not a bad TV, a modest 2011 LG LED 42?. Seems appliances have a 6/7 year lifespan these days. It has been on a lot to keep 2 toddlers distracted.

So after looking at what?s on offer within my budget I?ve ordered a Samsung QLED 49? The upside is the built in freeview has me considering ditching Sky.

Anyone bought a telly lately & care to post about it?

No but you can get specific TV insurance for a fiver a month that would have covered the repair or a replacement if unrepairable.

Just went a bit nuts and got one of these https://www.trustedreviews.com/revie...802-fz800-oled

I've wanted to wait and get oled. Almost didn't.

Now going to have to spend more money on content to be able to showcase the damn thing.

Don't watch that much TV. Movies should be good.

Going to wall mount it. But need to move the power socket and HDMI cable. Buried the hdmi cable years ago so it's out of date now [emoji19][emoji21]

        Bought the KD-55X8509C
Sony 3 years ago...it's great and was on a good offer in the boxing day sales.

It's plus point it had android is built so has all the smart tv apps inbuilt so I can use IPTV with ease for Mrs to use along with Kodi for my own media library plus prime and Netflix inbuilt too.

Almost bought a Sony. But got put off by the Android TV thing. How do you find the interface? Folks I know who have one say it's too slow and clunky.

One thing they do seem to have got right on TVs for a good few years now is DLNA. So you can cast from devices to the TVs without adding anything. For the older TVs Chromecast is great.

I'd never buy a Sony. When I bought my second wine cooler it arrived with a broken door. No problem getting it replaced but first they sent a man with a van to collect it. His van was full from side to side with big TVs being returned and they were all Sony.

It can be a little show at time but that's normally when the TV is turning on...once on...never have an issue.

Never had a problems with Sony my last one packed up after 10 years.

Do you have it yet? I looked at oled but the new gen qled seems alright based on what I read. Crazy thing is I haven?t gone and looked at anything, just ordered online.

I have a Sony receiver, it?s awesome. Still got my Sony hifi separates from 1995 and that?s awesome too. Although I?ve got Tannoy for the front speakers on my tv sound system & they are next level amazing [emoji869]

I looked at the Samsung 55" QLED a couple of weeks ago and it was a beautiful bit of kit but so it should be for nearly ?1700. That said the picture looked artificial compared to my 50" plasma and you have to pay a lot extra for the content to really appreciate it.

What was actually found to be wrong with this unit? Samsung and LG notoriously use crap caps on the power board that are only just rated for the circuit.

I had a Samsung just go on me and got quoted similar. I just bought my mate with a soldering iron a pint and he put new higher rated caps in for a couple quid and it has worked fine since.

Now I only tend to buy Sony or Panasonic screens.... Though I did get a free LG unit with a phone that the kids play with and it's still ticking along.

I can't stand the colour saturation on Samsungs.. It's way off, makes my eyes want to bleed. LG are marginally better.

Panasonic are currently by far the best for colour replication followed by Sony. Though Sony edge Panasonic on motion engines.

Colour replication and motion engines are much more important to me than whatever the latest flavour of the month resolution is.

I agree completely Marc, I'm dreading the day my plasma dies and has to be replaced by a modern TV with its artificial sharpness. We just don't see in 4K
