• Choosing what to smoke

So I went home yesterday to stock up on my smoking stash. How long does it take you guys to choose a few cigars? I'm mostly living at my girlfriends and only go home every two weeks or so to look after my cigars and pick up 10 or so to smoke. Lately I have been having trouble to choose what to take. I feel that the bigger my collection gets the longer I need to decide what to take. It's the same with my DVD/BR collection. I never know what to watch and it can take me 30 minutes or more to pick a film. I think this is because I have a few thousand to choose from. And it's the same with my cigar collection. I pull out boxes and start thinking about wether or not to break into a new box, with others I go: these need more age, these I only have a fiver left off, if I smoke this I'll never get another one and so on. It has gotten to a point where I have to force myself to take a certain aged or rarer cigar.

Yesterday it took me almost an hour to pick 7 or 8 cigars and I ended up taking sticks I have a lot off except for one.

Things were much simpler when I only had a dozen boxes or so, ha ha.

I agree with you on that one.....as your collection grows - making choices what to smoke, can turn into one long session of indecision....

Yes, originally I wanted to smoke a cigar yesterday but didn't because all the digging just took the fun out of it.

I do the very same, sometimes to the point of removing cigars with the intention of smoking them, only to go and put them back in the humidor again....
I keep a spreadsheet and I pick a cigar i would like to smoke from the spreadsheet - open the humidor and then spot something else instead of the intended cigar....it's quite funny really when I think about it.....

I know what you mean. Sometimes I search for a certain box, dig around for 10 minutes, find the bow, open it and then change my mind. It drives me crazy.

Certain times of year I do plan ahead with my smokes - Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries etc.. being examples, I usually have a clear idea of what I will smoke
for example my hit list for this Christmas will be
Trinidad Vigia
Trinidad Topes (Secret Santa)
AB Fine & Rare
Caldwell Long Live The King
ERDM Choix Du Roi
Juan Lopez Punto 55

as for the rest of my impulse smoking days.....who knows ??

gojira, you have had a lot of influence in bringing me in the same situation. My tricks are two: first I keep a drybox with a handful of cigars which I have decided in advance at some point that I would want to smoke. So no thinking about these (need more time etc.). Second: I have a size in mind, and go pick besides the drybox. 50 % of the time I hit a box I know needs more time, and it’ll just pass. I don’t care if I break into a new box. They will all go down somehow

Well, Henrik it looks like you are better at this than I am! I think that I need a large desktop humidor at my girlfriends that's filled with 60 or so sticks. It would make things much easier for me.

Mike, I understand your predicament. I don't think it's fair that you should go through this and so I believe I've got a solution for you. Send me 90% of your collection and transfer the burden at the same time.

Being serious, I also suffer from indecision when choosing what to smoke and my collection is not yet into the 1000's. On the plus side, as I'm now regularly spending at least a night way from home each week, I pack a few sticks and retire to a pub for a time, an ale or 2 and at least 1 cigar, before heading back to my hotel.

I was thinking the same - a Paris flat (house?) just to keep your cigars in? Were money to be of any significance it would be cheaper to convert a Winnebago into a mobile humidor and have it continually circling on the Peripherique ready to be called in as the whim took you.

You beat me to it! Another possibility if everything is on a spread sheet would be to have a random number generator pick a couple of cells et voil? ! Bon f?te de No?l.

Well, Marc, I can send you some cigars but you will need to transfer some funds my way for that to happen!

Yes, indecision is a bitch!
