  • Cohiba Tubos Tubes

I've just noticed that Cohiba tubos tubes are a slightly different design to other Push-on type tubes. The Cohiba ones have small raised bumps that hold the lid on, the other push-on tubes have smooth necks. Also where the neck meets the main body of the tube there is a distinct "collar", unlike the tubes of other brands that have a chamfered transition between the neck and main body.

It seems to me that the Cohiba design is far less likely to make a good airtight seal than the normal push fit tubes, and if this is the case, could it have implications for Cohiba tubos that are not stored in a humidor?

I have a number of both Sig VI and Piramides tubos. It’s correct what you say, but they also have a short shoulder and to me they seem pretty tight. Iwould never keep them stored for longer time outside the humidor though.

                OP did!

I'll be more specific. With what I say that is. I mean in the future. So that I can't be misunderstood. By other people. Including you I mean. This is hard work. Trying to be precise. When explaining things...

I've seen tubos stored outside the humidor in a number of cigar shops.

In the UK in specialist cigar shops, not in ASDA And as far as I am aware only Cohiba use this design of tube.

tubos not in a humi /walk in = AVOID

I never used to worry about it, but after noticing this, I think you're right, I'll avoid in future. I think the old ones with screw-on caps were ok, but these with push-on caps don't inspire confidence.

If not stored at the correct RH - in a humidor - a screw cap won’t make a difference. How is the RH being maintained if not in a stable environment? Think about it this way... I’ve noticed that even just opening my humidor for 5 seconds to select a cigar will make the RH drop immediately by at least 1 or 2%. I should imagine that after a week or two, any humidity would have seeped from the tube and after this point the stick will start to dry out.
