  • rant: Dart Charge

Got hit with a two way fine ?75. We realised 2 days late we forgot to pay so I panicked and paid the 5? anyway hoping. So that's ?80 total.

Why dont they give us a week grace to pay, why till midnight the next day? Obvious reason. Make more money out of the little people.

I've now registered for pay as you go. Now got to keep an eye on the account for mistakes they might make. So more life maintenance.

You just have to have what i call fcuk-off money. A budget for these kind of things. When there's a situation you just need to get rid of. Bad purchases, or some such.

    Thanks for listening.

Was this the first time you used the tunnel / bridge in your present car, as my darling daughter went through in my car and as it was the first time they sent a reminder about the charges and we didn't have to pay the fine.

It is the charge for using the Dartford tunnel or QE road bridge to cross the Thames at Dartford. They did away with the toll booths a couple of years ago to help with congestion.

It's the second time I've forgotten. First one was a few weeks before. As you say they waive the first one.

Now I've set up the account...

I try to avoid the bridge/tunnel whenever I can.

Makes sense to set up an account if you have to cross regularly. Do they charge for that too? I have to pay ?10 a year for the privilege of having a PAYG Congestion Charge account

Setting up a PAYG account doesn't cost anything more.

Thanks, I'll set one up for MLW as she's often crossing over to visit her cousin or go to Lakeside

I don't use the crossing often, but I was caught a few months back.

I keep a ready to use alarm setting on my i-phone at 23.30 that (I try to remember to) turn on on the day I use the crossing to remind me to pay.

2 million penalty charge notices issued on 2017. Down from 2.4 million the year before.

                          49.5 million chargeable crossings.
