So was sat outside my local micro pub enjoying my QdO 50 and an IPA. Couple of older fellas come outside and sit opposite. We start talking about cigars. One of the men tells me he used to smoke cigars. Cohibas. He stopped abruptly when he went to the dentist one time and the dentist asked him if he smoked cigars. Scared him off. We didn't go into it.

But he's got some of these old Cohibas in the humidor since then. How long ago I asked. Oh lord. Will be over 20 years now he exclaimed!

They must be dry as the Sahara by now. But he hears the can be revitalised. How many do you still have I asked? Must be 15 or 20. He didn't quite remember.

    Poor old Cohibas....

Never mind. They'll probably show up at some auction now.

Wonder how many of these stories are out there?

Sad indeed. Medically speaking, I can't think of why the dentist would ask spefically if he smoked cigars, than than if he smoked. Pipe smokers can get cancers at a specific point as they tend to hold their pipe in the same place in their mouth.similar for tobacco chewers, they tend to keep the was against the same gum & cheek (was very popular in the oil industry -where it was to dangerous to smoke at the work place).
I of course would have proper a like further. They do advise smokers to declare themselves to their dentist so they can check for any changes, although to be honest I have never done this myself. Never thought about it at the time.

Oddly it could have been for something as simple as staining.... in general the approach some take to dental hygiene is frighteningly poor. think about your average tube journey at rush hour!

Literally everything can give you cancer. Best to just enjoy cigars in moderation like everything else.

All praise to June Brown who plays Dot Cotton in Eastenders who at the age of 93 has declared she has no intention of giving up wine, fags or Guinness.

Biggest danger is probably depression caused by Eastenders - gave it up a long time ago for that reason - YOU SLAAAGS!

Some how my old boss found out i am a cigar smoker, so he started showing me pictures of his humidors when he used to smoke cigars. He had at least 30 Cohiba's from the 90s mostly all Esplendidos and Robustos and they looked in great condition as he still used to keep the humidity regulated. I even offered to see them and buy some from him........he was having none of that!

                      Poor Cohibas......

Maybe the dentist was just trying to buy the supply on the cheap...
