i wonder if you remember your first time?
Mine was on honeymoon (appropriately) in Roses, Spain. After a lovely meal out I saw this RyJ Churchill and thought, well why not. My new wife and I walked along the beach smoking this fantastic cigar and I was hooked on Cubans. We both recall that cigar as being beyond words creamy, tasty, smooth. Whether it was or whether it was the ocassion I dont k ow but we both still have a very soft spot for RyJ Cs.

We don't visit Roses now since my parents in law flogged the house (they are deceased anyway) but we shared some of the best holidays of my life there and i still recall the place with aching fondness. Half of me wants to return, the other half says No, it'll be spoiled now. Maybe when I retire on a few years. There's something about smoking cigars in Spanish sunlight that is magic.

Nice memory to recall PoW, I too had my fist Cuban in Spain (had been smoking the usual Hamlets/Castellas ect previously. I can't remember the exact moment but it would have been around '95/'96, visiting Benidorm with my family & MIL, probably a Monte No4. I can't remember why I decided to smoke one, apart from they would have seemed rather cheap & family holidays are stressful times so why not? My wife was still getting used to me smoking (as she didn't realise I smoked until after we were married). I do remember buying a box of R&J Julieta's, thinking they would be good fishing smokes (to replace the Caf? Creame's I used to smoke) & the wife would object less than a full box of Monte's.

Next holiday 2yrs later & I discovered Hoyo Epi No2's, a love affair had started. I remember buying a Cohiba Panatela & having it with a coffee & Spanish brandy outside the caf? on my own. A moment of peace in the sun. I bought some Hoyo No2's, No1's, a few Esplen & a pair of tubed R&J Churchill's. The wife made the fatal error of agreeing to buy me a 50 stick humi to put them in. Ah, the start of my personal journey; little did either of us know it to grow to take over the 'study'!

My first Cuban was in Havanna, Cuba, my wife and I were on our (long-delayed) honeymoon and I was given a cigar by one of the waiters in the restaurant. I smoked it on the balcony. A fairly terrible cigar probably, but I enjoyed it at the time. The only thing I would change is staying in the Nacional

It was when I got back that I properly started to take up the hobby

Hard to pinpoint my first exact cigar as there were any number of wintermans and hamlets tried as a callow youth.... followed by a series of king edwards at university balls, and then the occassional churchill smoked carelessly at early weddings and so forth.

the breaking of my duck 'proper' was when I joined Harrods... Laurence took me through a clutch of un-banded sticks from cabs... including epi 2, SLR regios & A... they helped me 'keep them' providing a Cohiba esplendidos box and a zip lock bag... with a spray of water now and again. This was shortly followed by some RASS, BBF, the opening edition of the Robaina Unicos. And then some CR Davidoffs.... one of which still remains.... I will never forget smoking on the the CR's 'green' in the back of a cab on the way to an airport to go abroad for a short trip with a girl from work... it was at that point that I knew that cigars were to be inextricably linked to good times in my life.
And that's when they kindly did me a deal on a tidy little adorini humidor.... which I still have and use; for those CR's ready for smoking. Perhaps this is when the seed that had been planted was fed and watered!

Am I the only one to wonder whether this was going to be a NSFW post! Not helped by skimming through it and seeing Simon confess to "having my first Cuban in Spain".

Not much of a story for mine, about a year back was also an RyJ Churchill, whilst an usher at a friends wedding and it was a slippery slope from there (which I've probably only just got onto!)

I've often smoked cigars over the years, used to love a Henri winterman slim panatellas in the mid 80s. My father smoked villiger export and I'd often join him. I remember my first Cuban, at a mates 40th 2007 An acquataince worked in the city and pulled out a cigar case and loudly said any one fancy a cigar, even back then smokers in my social group were rare, myself and another friend gladly accepted a fine mont? 2. From there I stated buying the odd tubo and 12 years later... Well the rest is history.
