  • Best Montecristo?

I?m about half way through this Especial No2, my first in a couple of years, and it?s phenomenal. I?m glad I picked up a box with these few singles recently. Is this the ultimate Montecristo? It?s pure class, skinny and long and just typifies the Marca for me. Lots of milk chocolate and coffee, a touch of vanilla, wood and cream. Beautiful. I love the PE but the concentrated flavour of the Especial No2 puts it at the top of the list IMO.

I'm not a fan of Montes in general but I love the Especiales No. 1, just a classy smoke. I've never had the no. 2 but I presume it's pretty similar. I've had one double edmundo that was phenomenal but the other ones I've had since were pretty average which puts me off buying a box.

Honestly, I don't know. I have always had a love and hate relationship with Montes altough I have come to appreciate them more and more lately. Probably because my stock has aged enough for me to fully appreciate them even though they still can be very inconsistent. I only have a few singles of the Especiales 2 and have smoked 3 so far. They were good but not stellar. But I have always fancied a box and might pull the trigger one day. I had stellar 5s but had some that sucked as well. I like a good PE, Edmundo, No.2 and Especial 1 but I just can't tell you which one of these would be my favourite.

The Esp No2 is good but the No1 is better only because it lasts that bit longer. For a even richer smoke I am currently enjoying the Monte Tubos, with 10yrs these are lush.

I’d agree about the No1 but I can never seem to find a box. Also they are almost the same smoke for me just slightly different size, maybe I should have said the Especiales are they ultimate Montecristo. I like the 4 when they are on but they are hit and miss, the 5 is more consistent but a little small, the PE is great but just doesn’t quite seem to match up, the No2 needs a hell of a lot of downtime to really shine IMO (8+ years), the Edmundo is average and the 1 and 3 are great smokes too but just a level below and need more age. The new line might give the especiales a run for their money but it’s too early to tell for sure.

I really enjoy the Monte No2 (never tried an Esp). I think I?ve got a 5 box of Monte A?s on their way, just awaiting confirmation I actually made the rush. Anyone got thoughts on the Monte A? Long sleep required?

I’ve never tried the A, that is a serious cigar. No idea how long it would take me to smoke one.

              Nice buy.

Had one last year. It was 10 yrs or so old. To me the length means it doesn't really get going until you are a third in, and they seem to be tight often. Mine certainly was. But the flavour i did get was good. Not stellar though.

I was gifted a Monte Edmundo Tubos about 2 and a half years ago that had a good 10-15 years on it (I looked it up as the band on the stick was different to current production). To this day I've not enjoyed a cigar as much as I did that one. It had a superb salty twang to it that I've been chasing ever since, I have no idea if it aged better due to it being in a tube or what but my god what I'd do to have another one like that!!

I'm 32. Taking my lifestyle into account that likely makes me middle aged [emoji23]

You're right though. I need a scubador or something that I can fill with boxes and stash away.

Especiales is the best IF construction is in order (some are not). Especiales no 2 is almost as good but doesn’t last as the esp. BUT the no 2s that I have with age on them are just fabulous.

I love the entire Monte range but I wouldn't buy Edmundo without seeing them first. Construction can be questionable sometimes
