Never get a minty taste but I can occasionally detect a minty smell from some sticks, pre-light. Wonder if it's something to do with fermentation?

Not all but nearly every stick at the end i get this, mint is the wrong word perhaps. its like it takes your breath away - not in the romantic sense lol

I cant explain it in words, just after a long day and a large Whisky - maybe its that

A clean almost metallic taste? Could be a build up of nicotine

I think I know what you mean, it most often reminds me of liquorice.

Could be, I find that strong cigars have that taste for me

I always put it down to heat. The hot smoke...its burning my mouth. Tjats my take anyway.

tend to find regular purging throughout smoking the cigar can help to lessen the build up especially towards the end

It would be interesting to see a gas analysis of cigar smoke over the whole burn

I often get a mint aroma from an unlit cigar with a lot of years on it especially if it's an old, old tubo. They're almost always minty.... Spearmint rather then peppermint though

I think the end burn is less minty more acidic...so it stings rather than tastes. It would be interesting to use a holder for the cigar to ensure no hot gasses are taken into the mouth. If the mustiness goes, it's heat.
                          Be a big holder though...

towards the end of a smoke I occasionally get a menthol type flavour... which brings with it a sort of coolness. odd as its not always there.

I wonder if this is what I call metallic. Wouldn't say minty.
