  • Boveda questions

Ive bought a pile of singles as samplers and have my eye on more - thought about buying a cheap humidor (still looking) to store them. Then I saw the Boveda bags that can hold boxes.

For ?11ish each, I could buy 2 or a cheap humidor – the sellers say they last a year but vague on if it’s the bag itself of the included Bovida pack?

Also, I seen a review online listing reasons NOT to recharge your used Boveda packs – I think this is clearly a marketing exercise.

    What say you?

    Recharging is 100% OK ?
Do the bags only last 1 year?
Packing back into original boxes and using the bags a good idea?
Any good deals on a 50 count humidor?

Cant see me stopping buying sticks - Ideally id like a larger 3rd humidor but limited to space and already using Tupperware – no room for a scuba plus I would rather spend on sticks, plus my heads bursting looking at humidors online – they know how to charge!

So that's the boveda people don't think it's a good idea to recharge bovedas?

Don’t have any experience with boveda bags (?) but I have with all packs. I recharge the lot that I have in every size and will probably never buy more

I've had a few that have been recharged almost to bursting point that felt slightly damp on the outside but that could have been condensation. Its amazing how much they will absorb actually.

I've never had an issue recharging Boveda packs. I've got a large 320g 84% Boveda that I used to season my humidors with, it just sits in a ziploc bag now and whenever my other packs are running low I throw them in the bag with it and let them recharge for a couple of days...

I once got some cigars shipped with an overcharged boveda though which leaked onto one of the sticks, I guess you just have to be careful not to over do it.

In reality there is very little that he says which is inaccurate. And I am sure that the risks are real.

But all risk has a percentage of likelihood ... play the numbers... use boveda carefully, deliberately and manage the risks.

If your sticks are in boxes little risk. If you are putting boveda in humis among singles, place them on sheets of cedar. Popping one in with some sticks to transport... pop it in the bag not the box.

If the paper is feeling thin, torn, worn.... consider replacing them...

                    End.

I don't know much about Boded packs yet but I can tell a 'bullshitty' video when I see it. I don't buy any of the Boveda man's argument. Sharp crystals, wrong humidity , won't be as good as a factory...blah blah. I just don't buy that. Lots of mights, mays, coulds and possiblys... very little definite argument.
