  • A Quick Test For You All

I picked up a sampler from someone online (not from the forum) and with it came this... Measuring somewhere between 7? and 7? inches and about a 58 RG.

I've tried looking online, but cant find a Punch with these measurements or the correct 'JG' band. I'm assuming it's something that's been discontinued?

If anyone can help give me a clue or tell me what it is, it would be greatly appreciated. I've not long started smoking cigars, so like to know what it is I'm smoking for future reference.

    TIA

It could be a Honduran Punch

Part of me is wondering whether it's a punch at all... I've not been able to find a similar cigar while searching for Punch. Also, the band seems to fit slightly loose, I'm just wondering whether it's been rebanded at some point? But then, what would they have used instead? Assuming it's not filled with floor sweepings...

Slightly confusing but as with lots of cigar brands there?s two called Punch, both with incredibly similar logos. The Cuban and non Cuban (in this case Honduran) version

It would appear you're right! Good shout [emoji106] the 'Chateau L' apparently. I discounted anything called a Churchill because I thought they'd be too small. But some websites it's a churchill, others it's a double Corona [emoji2369] but thanks a lot! Just relieved it's not a fake lol

Yeah I've noticed that with RyJ as well, although never known if there was a way to tell? I assume they're both the same companies run by the same people with the same branding, just with one based outside of Cuba so they can sell to America?

Just experience and recognising the details I suspect. Some are more obvious than others, they're all different companies actually. Generally it's the owners who were forced to leave Cuba at the revolution who made a non Cuban version and the now nationalised Cuban versions. There's an interesting article on it somewhere if I can find it.

Here we go, worth a read, it definitely opened my eyes to the industry and the history behind some of the companies

Well looks like theres more to it than I first thought... It is interesting. From the picture on that article, the Montecristo No.2 I have, which I always took to be fake, could well be a Dominican instead? Although, looking at it again, I'm still dubious [emoji849]

The Monte HABANA band designates this as a Cuban. Or a fake...

Thats an old looking band, pre 2003. Or a fake ..

It would be a quirky sampler that includes an NC punch and a pre 2003 monte No 2

Yeah I've always taken it as a fake. I think I might take half an inch or so off of the foot and see how it looks
