  • Mixed Humidor

Afternoon so I may get called a heretic for this but why are NC's seen as so different from CC's on here as far as storage and why does just being NC mean they all get lumped together?

I can understand keeping certain sticks from touching and flavoured cigars out of storage with non flavoured.

But has anyone ever knowingly been aware of a flavour transfer between CC and NC?

Wouldn't this be as much of an issue between very mild and stronger CC's and other varied flavour profiles. Considering the variations of NCs wouldn't logic say that some of these should also be kept separately if they have a noticeable difference in taste?

Thoughts? Not sure how much of this is pedantry in case and how many people have actually seen a negative impact from.

Being new to the hobby, my opinion may not count for much. But I've been doing a lot of research on how to keep a humidor etc. I looked into the whole cello on/off and cigars touching. The only thing I found consistently coming up was keeping flavoured and infused separate. With most sources not having any cause for concern over the marrying of flavours, unless they're drastically different and stored bunched up for the long term (years).

Then theres the question of whether youd even notice? I'm assuming any difference would be minimal and that I certainly wouldnt notice it.

And most NC's come with cello, so if that stays in then it's even less of a problem?

That's my uneducated understanding of it all anyway

Have to agree tho about nc all being lumped together...they are some vast differences

I am huge fan of dominican and nigcaranguan cigars

Most keep their CC & NC's separate but as mentioned, the real problem would be flavoured/infused ect. they would certainly have some cross over, tainting other cigars. To put it simply, someone once said if cross over from puro CC's& & NC's was a real thing companies would be doing it to 'improve' their NC's as they appear to have a CC aroma. Yet of course that doesn't happen. I rarely have more than a couple of dozen NC's & keep them in one drawer of a 5 drawer humi but don't worry about tainting.

More important is to ensure your cigars are bug free & that means freezing any not bought in a Belgian or UK outlet.

I thought all export Cubans were frozen? So only ever frozen those bought in Cuba itself, Is that not correct?

They say they are, but cuba can barely roll a cigar properly so do you trust them to freeze them all?

All Cuban production are supposed to be frozen before export but not those sold in the island. Trouble is if you buy for some outlets, they can get infected there e.g. I saw lots of beetle damage in Vigo Spain because the local weather is perfect for them. I checked all the cigars I bought there & then frozen them as soon as I got home. When buying from some people on the internet FB ect, you might find they were bought in Cuba & they are being flipped. Don't trust the vendor froze them!

I have 1 humidor so all my purchases go in it (CC and NC).
The only separate storage is for infused.

shortly before i signed up here - i saw a few mentions about "marrying" and to always keep ANY cigars from touching during long term storage. i think this is the 1st ive seen it here!

poor NC's must have a complex - most here keep them seperate from CC's lol - i do it too but just so i know whats what.
