  • Songwriting Anyone?

So i see there are some threads here on other hobbies so i thought i would stick something else i do up here.

I do a bit of amateur songwriting. Been taking singing lessons for a while and it has sort of gravitated into writing stuff, mostly in the folk / country genre. Its very therapeutic and gives me something to think about on endless commutes.

Currently in the process of doing demos for an album and thought i would share one here. If anybody here does music maybe we can start a bit of a discussion. Any other folk fans out there?

Cheers all and gave a great Christmas.

Played bass in a skate punk band and wrote music for the band. Started playing guitar again last year.

I?m still here! Just very busy are the moment, though looking forward to having a few days away from the studio over Christmas.

I help a lot of artists develop their songs, but writing isn?t really my specialism. I?m lucky enough to coach some amazing singer songwriters including Andy from Duran Duran (he penned Rio and Girls on Film himself).

          I?ll have a listen tonight!

Just got the latest mix back of my song and im really pleased with this one. It is a really tortuous process trying to get a song to sound how you want it to sound. Giving it a go really makes you appreciate the work that goes into every piece if music you hear. Im hoping to get a proper violin in place of the synths on this, otherwise its pretty much as good as i think i can get it.

For anyone interested in american folk music, its about Phil Ochs, who was a contemporary of Bob Dylan and one of my favourite songwriters. He sadly suffered from depression and committed suicide back in the 70s. Some of his music was so ahead of its time. I thoroughly recommend checking him out if you are interested in the American civil rights movement and folk in general.

                  Anyway here it is.

Totally agree, seems better than just a hobby to me, have you tried getting on your local country circuit, I'd think you were good enough to do a set on a theme night.

Cheers guys. At the minute ive got someone playing guitar for me on these as my ability is not good enough as yet. Makes it tricky to do any gigs, but hopefully one day. At the minute its just fun throwing ideas around and seeing what sounds good.

Hi guys. Been writing a bit of a torch song but ive got a nagging feeling ive ripped off the melody from somewhere. A perennial issue with songwriting. I would appreciate if anyone has any ideas let me know! Im a big elton john fan but i know its not an elton melody.

The piano isnt great i know, just a rough demo at this stage.

Sounds good - really enjoyed it; good voice too. Congratulations! On your plagiarism concern, nothing occurred to me beyond a vague similarity of the second half of your verse to the second half of the chorus of 'Delta Dawn' at a slower pace, but that's small beer. Well done! Look forward to hearing more.
