  • In for a penny

So I was kindly gifted a starter set by a botl on the forum. I had some issues with the pipe but enjoyed the experience so thought I would treat myself to something new.

Browsing cgars I quickly realised how expensive pipes can be but I stumbled across the Mr Brog range..too cheap to be good I thought?! But after a quick search for reviews it's clear they are pretty well regarded..I went for the cherry bent

Anyway pipe and mystery pouch arrived yesterday and i settled into my first proper bowl

My fist attempts saw the pipe go out continuously..slightly harsh smoke and quite dry on the tongue

I don't have much to compare to but this pipe smoked so much better it's chalk and cheese

Packed it, false light and proper light and the bowl never saw a flame again.

Smooth cool smoke..nutty, almost creamy with a nice bitter finish that didn't linger..just brilliant!

Now I'm looking at all the different tobaccos and the choice is mind boggling! Found one in particular that I don't thinks available in the UK. Autumn evening by Cornell & Diehl...does anyone have some spare! [emoji23]

Try macbaren cube....easy to find, quite fragrant and fruity. Smooth and easy going too

bagpipers dream, plum pudding, and others in a similar vein wont let you down.

Thanks for the recomendations ill have a look for them plum pudding sounds interesting!. got a tin of petersons connoisseurs choice on the way so really looking forward to that. can you recommend any tobacco retailers? Been looking at tobacco online but they have a minimum order of 1100 gram...seems a bit steep to me! but they do have a great choice

Its just a massive shame we seem to of lost all the local b&m's along the years, i would really love to be able to pop into somewhere with the knowledge to advise but sadly it seems we are left completely to our own devices. Having said that i ahve found one in whitby so ill be sure to visit next time im over that way, good excuse for fish and chips if anything

That would be brilliant thank you! i can always pop you some back when i get my order in. I might of cracked the cornell & diehl so if i get a tin of that id be hapy to send you a smapler along with some peterson in return.

                            heres my thoughts

Upon opening the tin i was hit with a pure christmas cake note, dark fruits and alcohol hit the nose. so keen to get a bowl packed!

I think it was a little wet straight out the tin, is it common to let it dry out a bit when its fresh out the tin? I did have some issues keeping it going and had to offer the flame about 4 times but it did eventually get going nicely

Upon lighting the rich tobacco and vanilla notes came straight through absolutely brilliant smoke i really enjoyed it.I was surprised at the smooth vanilla note. cant say i tasted much in the way of fruits or alcohol but i will dry some the next time before packing and see if its any different.
