When I travelled through SE Asia I always just sat down outside of a bar and lit up. Never had a problem.

I was about to say something similar but I've just read about the comprehensive smoking ban introduced in Thailand in Feb 2019! [emoji2369]

Smoking now forbidden in the following places (not exhaustive):

        Rental establishments

        Condos

        Pubs

        Hotels

        Karaoke buildings

        Religious buildings

        Restaurants

        Salons

        Laundries

        Parking lots

        Cinemas

        Spas and Thai massage areas

        Hospitals and clinics

        Swimming pools

        Schools

        Fitness parks

        Markets

        Bus stops

The airport smoking rooms have been abolished as well (always thought they look horrendous anyway. Nothing like a glass room full of smokers to thoroughly put you off the idea!)

Yeah, that's pretty much what it seems like. I hope the beach will still be available for smoking...

It's farcical really, half the population walks around with masks due to the horrendous smog in town, but god beware if you light up tobacco in the open air of a park...

ok here is my two pence on thailand and smoking, i also vape. vaping is band and can attract a very large fine and jail

The funny thing is having been a couple of times theres the laws in thailand and whats actually happening.

Bankok airport have designated smoking areas outside, no worries there smoking or vaping...

Our fist stop was in bangkok, Whilst there i was openly vaping, locals say it isnt a problem in bangkok and i know some policemen had seen me and they didnt bat an eyelid, vendors are selling tanks, mods and juice openly in the street. loads of people smoke in thailand and again i wintnessed people smoking while walking around, sat having drinks and meals without a problem. I openly smoked cigars walking around the city and again, not even a second glance.

Next stop was pattaya, soon as we arrived we were stopped by the police and fined (paid a bribe-cost about 300 quid and this was lower end!) for vaping, i told the officer i also smoked cigars and he said thats not a problem anywhere. Again smoking cigarettes doesnt appear to be frowned on. Same as bangkok everyone smoking everywhere. Coincidentally prostitution is also illegal in Thailand and we all know what goes on over there but the police dont seem to bothered about any of that. It brings too much money in for them to start arresting and fining people.

Next stop was Koh Chang. Absolutely wonderful island by the way and again not a problem smoking or vaping..spent many afternoon on the beach with a cigar and frosty drink!!

So in short yes it is illegal but just speak to the locals, ask in bars if its ok and be sensible. Look and see whats going on a round you. And above all...dont ever go to pattaya! place!

                    HTH!

A ?300 bribe that's huge. I had to bribe a cop in Cambodia once but it was only $10.

the reason for the vape ban is because they havent worked out the import and retail tax yet so they say they are illegal!

Got fined in pattaya on Walking street (front street) and walked around the back to second where there are vendors selling mods and juice...its just mental. The general consensus is fine the stupid tourists where you can get away with it!

                              even thai people hate pattaya
