  • Thoughts on large ring gauge cigars?

So I've been smoking 5/6 cigars a week for a couple of years now and last night while enjoying a FANTASTIC Bolivar PC ('16, I think) it struck me how seldom I truly enjoy the larger gauge cigars. Now don't get me wrong I've had some.. PD4s and R&JWC come to mind... but those great, totally satisfying smokes I'm always hoping for when I light up are overwhelmingly under 46RG. Trinidad reyes, PLPC, Bolivar CJ, LGCMd4 ect... all just seem to be more consistent with the added bonus that, when you get a dud, it's not too much of an expense to put it down and try another.

Surely I'm not alone in this?

Although I'm fairly new to cigars, I've already come to the realisation that I'm not too interested in anything over 50ish RG. With my favourite vitola so far being Corona Gorda sort of size. Based more on the 'feel' than anything else.

Hence why, when deciding which Montecristo to opt for, I went for the No.1. I'd rather have the extra tobacco in more length than extra RG

I smoke a variety and do enjoy large rg though I don't like the fashion of the really big RG cigars being pushed by the American market.

The more I smoke the more I also find myself preferring slimmer cigars, give me an 898, Lonsdale or Lancero any day now.

I love the fatties. On holiday I got through a stash of MUWAT 660s awesome little fellas...tasty and long lasting. I find the trick is to go with it...itll take time, so let it.

Monte 2 is a great cigar. I've been working through a box for years, only a couple left now. It's classified as a 52.

Probably the same for other Piramides.

So don't discount all larger ring gauges.
            .--
I think I may finally have this CAD under control...

Good point with the Piramides/Torpedo's, I do find the RG less of an issue with those

I think the Monte 2s I've tried may have been a bit young

                  Partagas 898 are brilliant smokes.

Piramides certainly feel more comfortable to smoke

im a fan of robusto and the occasional nub 460, connecticut or sun grown. drew estate flying pigs are also all excellent smokes. But i do like a skinny or anything inbetween to be fair..so to sum up i suppose i like any rg providing it smokes well, some large rg cigars can just be wind tunnels and provide no flavor at all...sorry thats not much help is it!!

ps..some smaller rg can be tigh as **** so its all relative i guess!!

Good old fashioned Petit Corona for me, perfect size for mt time. However, tried a lot of larger rg's and love the Petit Edmunds.

Have you seen the light, I thought you were into 52+ the last time we spoke?
