  • The Great Cigar Sort Out

Before I set any pulses racing I?m not selling anything!

Being practically locked in the house I thought I would be productive and sort through my collection. I have spent almost the entire day emptying my fridge, checking every single cigar for mould (of which there was just one random Monte PE), sorting into piles of what is going back in and what is going in my cooler, updating my collection on CCW website (if you?ve added me you can see what I?ve got, pm me if you want to share collections) and then restocking.

I?m not going to lie it?s been an absolute pain in the arse and I?ve not finished yet. 1,341 cigars logged but I still have the painful task of sorting through a load of singles, a few bundles of CR and there?s one box in the post, probably around another 300 in total.

I do however now have space to satisfy my addiction once more and peace of mind knowing the cigars are safe from mould and bugs, touch wood.

I was wondering what everyone else?s sorting/organising looks like? Do you do an annual check like I try to do? Do you keep records of what you have or just throw them all in a pile and grab the first stick until you?ve smoked through it?

Don’t we all want to buy more cigars? That’s why we’ve all joined this support group.

Nice! Now you have more cigars than I do Alex!

I try to add mine on to the CCW as they come in, otherwise I forget. I did a complete check a couple of months ago and everything I have is in there now. I use the smoking diary to "take out" the cigars that I have smoked of my list more seriously now. Everything that I gift, sell or trade is taking off the list as well. So it's totally up to date now and I intend to keep it that way because it's just a pain in the butt to do a head count every year or so.

Lies! We all know you’re way more addicted than I am Mike

I plan on keeping it updated too as like you say it’s a pain to do an headcount, although saying that, I’ve always planned on keeping it updated I’ve just got lazy.

            Hahaha!

Once evrything is in CCW I believe that you will become more serious about keeping it up to date because it' such a pain to do it once a year if you don't.

Everything I buy trade or get gifted goes into a single excel spreadsheet with separate tabs for each humidor/storage device. This I keep in Dropbox so I can edit it from any device.

I also keep a CCW list although I have been lax updating the site of late

I keep spreadsheets on everything, including a smoking diary of every stick since 2004 & list all buys & current stock. Can't say it's currently tip top but if & when I next go home, I'll do a new stock take.

Impressive Alex. Believe it or not, I am planning a stock check as well, combined with updating CCW. This will be done next week probably, quite a nice amount 1600!

Impressive Alex. Rarely see you posting when you smoke though which surely deserves a spank.

I'm planning a weekend sort for sure. I've a large number of singles which is the biggest pain to manage. My list must be out of date.

I use a Google sheet and try to manage as things are ordered, smoked. But it's bound to be a bit out. I try to track smoking notes, but not so good at that.

Maybe I have time now to set up CCW. Looks like I'm now on around 1000 sticks with about 300 demised over the last few years.

Do you photograph as you stock check?

I’ve not smoked recently Banos as I only do outside, with the sun now making an appearance and the onset of WFH I’m sure you’ll see a lot more in the coming months and no spanking will be needed.

i would recommend CCW, as well as the collection feature it has a smoking diary which lets you choose from you collection and reduces the number as you smoke. It’s very handy and may help you kill two birds with one stone.

I don’t photograph as I stock check but I do normally photograph as they come in, not least to update my thread on New in The Humidor”. However this, like my stock taking, has become less consistent over the years.

When you sort your collection out and add it to CCW let me know so I can have a nosey through

this is a great thread... a careful and measured confession of addiction... and how we cope with it!!!

I tried to catalogue once.... failed miserably! might give it a go in these consrained times. Could be an interesting interlude.

not so sure that I want to confess my stocks to myself though...

Pretty sure I'm lower than the majority though... !!

I expected it to be quite cathartic but I found it the most stressful part of cigar smoke, maybe second actually to opening the credit card bill at the end of a month.

On the plus side I found several boxes of forgotten about and am now looking forward to smoking through.

If you do get around to it Matt and use CCW drop me a pm with your email so I can see your collection in all it’s glory!
