  • Cigars & A Long Life?

    This is worth sharing..
I was giving a employee a ride home a couple evenings ago. She has been with the company several years and her daughter used to work with us as well.Mom was born in Argentina.

As we were driving her home I was smoking a cigar.Everyone that works for me knows that I smoke.
What was interesting is, she told me her Mom smoked cigars every day until she died.
When I asked Justina how old she was when she passed, she said "my Mother lived to be 105 years old" in her cute Latin accent.

    I just had to smile

Reminds me of my grandfather who died in 1961. He was Hebridean and had been the bosun on the Cutty Sark. When he was at sea, he smoked what he called "sheroots" and when he was at home, he chewed tobacco and smoked woodbines at the same time! I still remember the "hhssss" as he spat the tobacco juice into the peat fire. I was only 5 years old but I still remember it.

When he died, aged 91, I remember my mother saying that the "evil weed" had finally got him!

Living on island, he lived cheaply, but can you imagine living to 91 and still smoking to your last day?

More about this great guy later!

My mom talks of her grandfather, who worked in tobacco fields and rolled his own from the leaves. Lived into his nineties.

mines a similar story - my grandfather lived to 86 years and smoked an upmann corona every evening with a glass of jemmy !

fought at the front in 1 and was never sick a day in his life.

                            Another story about my Grandad.

When he dies, he died in the bedroon. He had just been in a new house for two years after his Tigh-Dubh had been condemned. Anyway, he died in the bedroom and as was the habit in ose days, he had to be carried downstairs to the table in the kitchen to be dressed for the three day wake.

Anyway, my uncle held him under his arms and my father took his legs and they were half way down the stair when the body expelled some air. In other words, he farted! My father immediatedly dropped his legs and said to him in Gaelic, "Ah you old bugger! If you can fart, you can walk!"
