Time for another tale of a great smoking session.

I was sat at work in an intensely foul mood as my schedule had changed allowing me to do the H&F LE event in London but unfortunately I could not procure a ticket. An oversight on the part of JJ Fox I am sure, they must know who I am, surely? As it was a Thursday and I refused to let a lack of ticket stop me having a “ball” I thought to hell with it, Teddington here I come.

I arrived about 16:45. Greeted as warmly as ever by Ajay and his good lady wife. It was good to see Ajay up and cheerful following his recent stint in hospital. By the sounds of it the hardcore Teddington crew (they will count me as one of them one day I pray) and his wife had failed utterly in stopping Ajay returning to work far too soon. He was up and down the stairs and greeting customers as enthusiastically as ever. I think she looked more tired than he did due to trying to enforce him to take it easy.

I tried not to make more of a fuss then was necessary so for once I selected a cigar from the humidor in the shop. I wanted something small-ish and not overly strong as I know what lay in store for the evening. I burnt though a Vegas Robaina Maestros as slowly as I ever do (never learnt how to smoke fast, thank god) and enjoyed it as much as ever. Not a full strength cigar but with a pleasing taste, unusual hint of sweetness to it and a cigar I could easily enjoy almost any time.

As the afternoon turned into evening many of the usual faces joined the gathering. My second smoke is sadly something I cannot currently discuss but am desperate to do so. It was a very rare joy to smoke this particular cigar so I shall write notes and post when I am permitted, sorry if this appears a tease but the other main event cigar waffle is coming shortly.

The evenings discussion was as varied as ever ranging from bawdy stories to enthusiastic cigar chat. It was mentioned that Ajay had not had a cigar for over two weeks and was longing for a good smoke, hence the main event of the evening and what we had all been looking forward to was upon us.

Ajay sprung to his feet and revealed the other main cigar for the evening, a full box of Dunhill Punch Seleccion Suprema No. 192 was presented to those gathered. This cigar was from the early to mid 60’s. They felt firm and exhibited a notable box press but when cut the draw was excellent. The smell from the opened box was slightly floral but light. Those present clearly thought that this cigar was utterly stunning. Ajay was dumbstruck as he came to this cigar with an entirely clean palette following his enforced break from smoking. He was almost lost for words, but not for very long. It was agreed that this cigar had a flavour to it that none of those present had experienced from a cigar of any sort before. It was a familiar taste but nobody could describe it adequately. In Teddington you can tell when it is a cigar of note being smoked if the conversation almost dies to nothing, everybody lost in contemplation of the cigar they are enjoying utterly. This was certainly the case last night. Ajay chose one hell of a way to celebrate coming back to the world that he is just so infectiously enthusiastic about.

The chat and smoking continued on into the evening. The last two people present being myself and Ajay. We discussed some recent events, planned acquisitions and cigar offers. I gave him a lift back to his house to try to keep him off his feet a little and the night was at an end. A really great night was had both in cigar and stellar company. Plans for the near future are well advanced for more events of note.

Still annoyed I could not do JJ Fox but all in all I am not sure that it was not ultimately to my benefit that I did not acquire a ticket.
