  • A very surreal breakfast cigar

Well I was thinking of taking my regular breakfast cigar this morning, the Hoyo De Monterrey Petit Robusto, however a more attractive option made itself known to me.

    A Don Candido 508.

I have been dying to smoke a Don Candido for a long time and today seemed as good a day as any.

The first third/half had extremely subtle flavours- didn't really peak my interest and I was wondering what all the fuss was about; the last four inches of this 6.9 inch cigar burst into a wonderful fanfare of powerful flavours of pepper, leather and liquorice. The last part of this 1960s cigar was almost if not as flavourful as a partagas! At 6.9" by 28 ring guage this feast burnt for over an hour and a half providing me plenty of time to enjoy this rarity!

For those of you who don't know: Don Candido was a brand made in Cuba specifically for Dunhill from before the 60s up until the 80s.

Lucky chap. Sounds like a remarkable cigar. Attractive size too - not enough slimmer RG sticks around these days...

        Nice pics and review.

I bought a single recently as well (1958). Over thirty pounds, I think. Haven't smoked it yet... I was going to save it for a special occasion but if Jimmeh is having them for breakfast I might have to reconsider!

The source Jimmeh and I used asked to remain anonymous but I got to breakfast late so mine is resting in the humi, I smoked the Trinidad short robustos T, meh, whatever. The 506 for Jimmeh and I next.

This gets so confusing whenever TJ's name comes up.
Manicurist??? I thought he was a Mexican!!!

Nice review by the way. Am fortunate enough to have been gifted one of these which is currently languishing in the depths of a humi waiting for the right moment.

I wonder if these are all from the same source

Stephan and Lionhound- which Vitoli do you have? Both 508?

The Don Candido is probably the holy grail brand for aged Cubans. I know of singles that go for well over ?100 per stick!

Now we are talking the No500 is ment to be mind-blowing ...especially form a cabinet of 100
