  • Bolivar Regional Editions

    Hello chaps,

Ive recently started pursuing regional editions again with a renewed passion. I have found all that I have tried either good or great.

I have discovered many of these have a completely different profile from the rest of their brand while others stay true.

Here is my question to those who have tried any Bolivar regional editions. Are there any that don't resemble the regular Bolivar profile?

The reason being that I, unlike a good few of you here, do not like the bolivar profile unless it has 10 years plus on it.

I don't want to buy any cigars that will have a similar taste to the regular line but at the same time I don't want to miss any gems out there.

    Thanks a bunch

I tried a Canadian Simones courtesy if Whisky77 at the weekend. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I'm not s big fan of Bolivar tbh....worth tracking some down K

I haven't smoked all the Bolivar RE's, but, IMO, you should avoid the french Petit Libertador (2008), the Asia/Pacific Short Bolivar (2008) and the german Especiale (2009). These need time.

The french Libertadore (2006) should meet your expectations, and possibly the Middle East Double Corona (2007). These two are very "easy" Bolivars (i.e nothing in common with a fresh Corona Extra or Corona Junior, for instance)…
      Both are very pricey.

I know this sounds strange but I would focus on cigars from the last half of 2009 and 2010. The Cubans seem to be making the cigars taste a bit more mature. Cooking maybe? I don't know? I also concue that the Simones are good and they are priced reasonably. The Benelux also is nice but could use a bit more time.

Tha bolivar libertatador 2006 it was a great cigars and now is sublime. Not power like we can think about bolivar but well balanced ,full body and well spiced . It was a real perfect cigars and now is Fantastic! Also the cosrtruction is in 99/% good. Sometime i smoke some of my reserve and i say always that i am sorry to didn't buy 30 boxes !!!!!

            Bolivar Simones.

As Stevieboy said, I had purchased a couple of boxes of the Simones due to reviews I had read which stated they were very different from the normal Bolivar tast profile.

I am not a big Bolivar fan TBH, but the Simones cannot be compared to the normal taste profile of Bolivar. This becomes even more apparent when smoked back to back with the likes of a Bolivar RC.

I have been lucky enough to have tried a few different RE which I have been gifted, swapped or purchased and I have not smoked a bad one yet, although I admit they are at times substantially more pricey than the normal releases.

By chance, have smoked two this week :

2008 Chinese Armonias (Salomones) : suffered from the curse of salomones - refined and elegant to begin with, but then did bugger-all else :-(
2009 Greece/Cyprus Greco (Gordito) : similar in profile to above to begin, developed and strengthened. Beautiful. Previous reviews I'd read really hated it ? More like a BBF in places than the `normal' Bolivar profile.

Thanks for all the feedback gents, Whisky is going to let me sample the Simones tomorrow. Ive asked a friend in Kuwait to get me a box of the Double Corona when he returns at xmas. Ive read mixed reviews on these but the recent reviews suggest that these have evolved into a magical smoke.

Now I just need to source a couple of the french Libertadore.
