  • Breaking cigar into a pipe.

One might say if it was good enough for Churchills gardener then it isnt so bad....but then none of us are he.

Im a novice to these forums and indeed to cigars and smoking.

Ill never smoke cigarettes or inhale tobacco as it just isnt me, but i am attracted to a nice cultured relaxed pursuit and appreciate an equally cultured taste in this way.

I do alot of hunting and when its blustery and/or drissley outdoors, i feel i would be inclined to break a cigar into a pipe, i dont know if this is sacrilidge or not, or just a personal taste, or if its even amenable to do.

For all i know there are special pipes for it, im sure you'll educate me.

    Thank you, and hello.

    Val

I save all my cigar butts and when i have enough i throw them on my chiminea and get a beautiful aroma of cigars while i smoke but never smokes a unused or smoked cigar in a pipe. However, if you are enjoying it then go ahead, the main point is the seeking of pleasure and if you are enjoying yourself to hell with everyone else lol. Although if i had a pipe i'd be trying all the different pipe tobacco there is.

Pipe tobacco and cigar tobacco are very different - they have different levels of nicotine, etc. Not sure how it would work out really, but let us know if you try it.

              Welcome to the forum!

                Hi and welcome.

Smoke a pipe or a cigar, load of great cigars and loads of great pipe tobacco (but cigars are better )

                  Hello and welcome.
Seems a strange thing to do but whatever floats your boat.

Chopped cigar tobacco smoked in a pipe usually tastes very harsh.

If you like a pipe why wouldn't you smoke a good pipe tobacco? (please, not a scented/sauced/aromatized extremely sweet concoction that smells good but whose taste is terrible, not to mention the tongue biting).

It was more a practical sollution for the harshness of the weather we get where i am and whilte im out in it, it wouldnt be something id do often and if i was out in the land rover, then obviously be dry enough to not need to.

Pardon my greeness, i was just exploring the validity of extremes one goes to enjoy a fine habano in the least expected places.

Tongue biting! Oh I've got to know about this, please tell us more!

The more I read about pipe smoking the more I'm tempted!

My Grandfather used to smoke a pipe, he used to smoke one on a Saturday afternoon, all the way through the Grandstand football results, then Doctor Who.

The Doctor Who theme music and the smell of his pipe are the the sensorial signatures of my pre teen years.

There are two schools of thought about tongue bite. One says it's the heat of the steam in the smoke that causes it, and the other says certain people's bodies react badly to certain types of tobacco.

Either way, aromatic blends tend to be gloopy and very likely to cause T.B. unless it's smoked very slowly and cool. I'd imagine that T.B puts off more new pipesters than anything else - and mostly then 'cos most people start out with a cherry aromatic or somesuch which, combined with poor smoking technique, is almost guaranteed to cause it.

And no, I wouldn't smoke a cigar in a pipe. There are some damn good pipe baccy blends with cigar leaf as a condiment, though.
