  • bolivar gold medal VS partagas 898v????

    hey all,
just doing a bit of research here, hoping for some opinions.........

both bolivar and partagas are my favourite cuban brands!!! they seem to me to be both consistent in terms of quality and flavour!!! i also love them because they are rich and full bodied cigars!!!! now, here's the question......

the bolivar gold medal, a cervantes (lonsdale, i believe?), is probably one of my all time favourite cubans!!! how does it rank alongside the partagas 898v??? the bolivar is rich and strong....... is the 898v anything like it in these terms???

i'm a firm believer that there is no such thing as a 'better' cuban brand, they all have different qualities and suit different tastes!!! as i said, i love both bolivar and partagas, and both cigars i'm enquiring about are the same vitola, how do they compare against each other???

    all the best,

    alex

One question mark is enough please! I've still to try a 898 - hoping to have one in Gib next week.

lol, yes boss! just remembering recently someone posted a thread about questions not being obvious enough...... thought a few ???'s would get the point across!

excellent news about your trip to gibralter! wish there were flights from belfast (even dublin, as daft as that sounds)! have a good'un......

They're not of the same vitola. The 898 is a dalia, 43rgx170mm.
It still belongs to the lonsdale family.
The 898 is a classic, you can't go wrong by trying it.

Tell Loren that Eddie says hello. As for the Gold Medal versus the 898, the Gold Medals are so bad I don't know how this even came up.

Funny I love the Gold Medals, have you tried one recently now they have a few years on them. I had one the other week walking across Paris and it was great. Hoping to try an 898 shortly so I will feed back my observations. You should also consider a Monte 1 which can be wonderful with a few years on them.

btw, here's the friends of habanos' review of the partagas 898v:

Both Cigars are excellent. The 898 in my experience is the stronger of the, a bit more pungent, meaty profile while the Gold Medal, more suave with a glorious leather element to it.

lol, from all the rave reviews the 898v has been getting around here, plus all the interest of people wanting to try it, i think the chances of that are quite slim!!! if by any chance it is a disappointment, then i'm coming looking for YOU!!! lol, take care pal.......
