  • 2005 LE Upmann.

Been sitting on a box of these(not literally) for a long while now and TBH they sat and the back of the humi and I never paid them much attention.

I think my hesitance to smoke them was based on my initial dislike to the later Mag 50 release which I smoked when they first came onto the market, when they were probably too young.

I finally gave into temptation and tried the first one a couple of nights ago and they have turned out to be a fantastic smoke; not too strong, but more subtle and refined with some real nice hints of vanilla and Nuts for the first two thirds of the cigar. Not a great amount of smoke while they are burning but they do smoke smooth and consistant and you cannot ask for better than that. I have always appreciated the Upmann taste profile and this particular cigar epitomises what a good brand Upmann cigars can be with some age on them.

I had noticed that they featured in the top 5 at Cigars-Review.org for some time and now I fully understand why. Not the easiest of cigars to source, but if you can find some then I would advise trying them out.

cigars, cuban cigars, cigar reviews, habanos, cigar ratings, top cigars, top rated cigars, best cigars, cubans

    Marvelous Stick....so she said!

    +1

Umm. Don TJ picked up a box in '05. It's one of our very special occasion sticks. Will likely spark one up over the holidays!

(Ahem!) You know, BB...saying "+1" is like piercing your right ear.

I am desperate for some of these. Missed out first time round. Smoked one in Singapore a couple of months ago and loved it, one of the best EL's ever IMHO.

I have but one of the original release of the Mag 50 and I cannot bring myself to smoke it, I hate smoking the last of anything. The visit I paid to Mitch's new little shop on the tube was the time I obtained it but this was a while back, it was the only thing that caught my eye at the time. I have such a sneaky respect for Upmann, so often surprised by how much I enjoy a No.2 or Sir Winston. Not blown away by the Mag 50 regular production or the Mag 48 LE except the most recent one I smoked. I spookily purchased a Mag 46 from Dunhill yesterday to revisit this one as Upmann is getting ever nearer my love or Partagas and Ramon. I will find a time over Xmas to smoke it.

Agree with that TJ. I can see these being placed at the back of the humi once more and only seeing the light of day on high days and holidays.

I agree with this and would add the Conn#1 to that list, one of my favourite daytime brands.

The Mag50 EL is in my Xmas travel humi, been a while since I've smoked either of them.

Never had the 2005 EL .... but by the sound it's a damn fine stick.
If you want to, you can.

I had the same experience: underwhelmed by them in 2005 and blown away by how beautifully they have matured.

I know somebody who still has stock but will charge ca. ?600 per box!!!
