  • Packets of cheaper cigars?

Apologies if this is a bit of a newbie question to raise.

I've noticed that Cgars sell small 3 and 5 packs of cubans for around a tenner, Puritos and the like.
Are these worth a try or dang nasty?

Just asking because I will be in the poor house quick sharp if I end up getting though a couple of the more expensive cigars a week.

They're not bad if you're after a wee blast of Cuba but your tenner will get you a much nicer mildish single such as an HUpmann PC or Connoisseur #1. Just my 2p worth...

I'm sure I've read on more than one occasion that Jose L Piedra Petit Cazadores are a pretty good cheap smoke. Having never had one myself I can't really confirm that!! I'm sure another BOTL can give their opinion.

Been meaning to buy a pack from Cgars to give them a try.....

Yep, I'd agree they aren't bad if you are on a tight budget, certianly 100% better than the rest of the line.

                hey superbrother,
those wee packets are absolutely fine if you want a quick blast of cuban goodness!!! i'd suggest the cohiba clubs....... around 20mins of goodness!!! 10 for around a tenner as well, can't beat that!!! i usually have a packet around for when i fancy a cigar, but either A/ don't have the time or B/ when the weather is less favourable to enjoy a bigger smoke!!! you could also look at the cuban minis, such as cohiba, montecristo, partagas & romeo y julieta......

you could opt for what stevie says, but you're looking at around an hour of smoking!!!! i just had a bolivar corona jnr this evening and, as much a i enjoyed it, because i smoke outdoors, i wish i hadda had something smaller cause the wind made it less enjoyable!!!

i echo stevie's sentiments as well buddy, we were all newbies at one point, so, anything i can help you with advice ways, please don't hesitate to ask!!!

                again, welcome to the club!!!

on another point, when i started off, my weekly budget was around ?30, usually spent on 3 'quality' cuban cigars!!! to me that was 3 evening's worth of smoking (i rarely smoke more than 1 cigar a day)!!! since i only get 2-3 quality days off a week and my 3yr old son occupies most of my time, that was adequate!!! just food for thought......

                  all the best pal,

                  alex

That's roughly my budget too and I'm limiting myself to one a week of the good ones while I try and build up a stock.
Cohiba clubs seem to be the way to go though for a quick fix...........nice!

sounds good....... as i said, picking up small tubed cigars (such as h upmann corona jnrs or punch coronations) with the shopping in asda (or waitrose), or at the local off license, helps raise the contents of your humi!!! most decent small cuban's still clock in around 40mins of smoking time, so if you don't have that time to dedicate to a cigar, simply don't do it (it's hard i know, but you gotta discipline yourself, just like the rest of us, lol)!!! i started smoking during the summertime, so it was harder for me to resist when the weather broke!!! i've a load of larger sized cigars i'm gonna have to wait another couple of months before i can even think of smoking, lol!!! in the meantime, i've a decent supply of bolivar corona jnrs, partagas shorts and trinidad reyes to tide me over, as well as the odd packet of cohiba clubs.....

                      all the best mate,

                      alex

Just a shame so many small vitola 3s and 5s have gone in Habanos Packageing deletions over the last ten years or so.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

                            No Street Cred for littlies...

I buy a mixed pack of these about every other month, they are not brilliant but have their place as a quick cheap smoke & at the price they are for 40 little'uns no damage to your budget... save for the BIG 'UNS we'll have you up to ?60 a day in no time..
                            10 X RyJ Minis, 10 X Monte Minis, 10 X Party Minis, 10 X Cohiba Minis ?24.

Further to my reply earlier regarding the Jose L. Piedra Petit Cazadores, I bought a couple of singles from our sponsors and fired one up yesterday evening.

I have to say that it's not a bad smoke at all - of course it's not going to give you everything a 'premium' brand CC will, but I had a nice, enjoyable 50 minute smoke from it.

What it seems to lack is any real development of flavour - that is it tastes pretty much the same from first puff to last, and it also feels somewhat one-dimensional in its taste, there's no great complexity in there for me. However, the taste it does have is pleasant enough, and it had a very nice, even burn so I would recommend that they are definitely worth a try.

Smoking these in rotation with higher end cigars will also allow you appreciate the full experience of a premium cigar when you do have one, and if you're considering trying to keep a few cigars back to be aged, it may enable you to start a little collection without breaking the bank!
