  • *Specific* cigar and drink combinations...

I've been experimenting recently with cigar and drink combinations to see what works well for me. The best results I had was from coffee and I was trying loads of different blends with varying results. Yesterday I went for a cigar and was offered a coffee by my girlfriend. I assumed she was making a pot, but she used an instant we'd picked up 'Douwe Egberts le Cafe Dark Roast'

I combined a strong, black cup (no sugar) with a Nub Cameroon Torpedo 464 and the result was sensational. The thick, creamy smoke from the Nub complimented the dark chocolatey flavours of the le Cafe perfectly. It was by far my favourite cigar experience, so much that I had to instantly repeat it.

I'd like to hear bout other specific experiences so that I can sample them myself; I've not quite the time to do too much experimentation.

    Thanks!

I'm a big fan of Scottish single malt whiskys but the ones I prefer to sip -heavily peated/smokey styles, especially ones from Islay- have strong flavours that really overwhelm most cigars. A lighter peat or sherried malt such as an Aberlour or Dalmore or Bowmore seem to match the flavour of Cuban cigars particularly well.
Some of the smoother American bourbons can be nice with one of the stronger non-Cuban brands such as Padron.
From time to time I enjoy my cigar with a rich cognac such as Hennessy XO but over a longer smoke, the brandy ends up swamping any complexities in the cigar.
Guinness -nice and cold- is one of my go-to tipples if I'm smoking with our cigar club at one of two places that still welcome us.
Real port from Porto is of course a match made in heaven with a Cuban cigar.

With you on the Islay whisky cbob

Dalmore Gran Reserva is very nice (I think it used to be called the Cigar Malt), I find the heavy peated whiskies like Lagavulin go well with full bodied smokes like Bolivar, most of the distillers editions go nicely too.
The only Bourbon I've tried that I thought went very well was Pappy Van Winkle.

I found that a Siglo IV and a White Russian goes rather splendidly

Several things I find go with all cigars; Early Grey, Champagne, Pimms, G&T.

Don'ts: White wine. Not a great fan of coffee with one either, but usually do it...

But as far as exact pairings go, I can't think of much.

I'm another one who likes really peaty malts but doesn't think they pair with cigars very well. My favourite malt for cigar pairings has to be The Dalmore Cigar Malt which I believe has been replaced by the Gran Reserva which is also excellent. They are great with something sweet and spicy like a RASS or PSD4.

I'd love for someone to try the combination I recommended in the OP, to get their take on it!

Any quality port, aged rums and heinrichs gin pairs well with a CC.
                              For me in particular

Havana club rum with a PSD4 or JL2
Heinrichs gin with a HDM PR
Glenfiddich 15 with a party 898V is very nice.

Apparently hot chocolate with a secretos very well.
