  • Newbie, what is the best Cuban cigar (for the money)?

    Hi everybody!

I'm new to UKCigarForums, I've not been smoking cigars long (still a teenager, pretentious I know but I really enjoy smoking a cigar every now and then)

I've tried a few cigars, some Cubans and some European. I can definitely tell the difference between a Cuban and a European cigar, Cubans are far more superior in every way! I've tried many cigarillo's too, I ordered a pack of Cuban cigarillo's with the brands of Cohiba (loved them), Montecristo (second favourite), Romeo y Julietta (not a fan) and a brand called Patagas? Something like that but I really wasn't keen on that brand!

I've tried a Montecristo No 5 and a Cohiba Siglo II and I loved both of them.

    tl;dr:
Could anybody recommend me a cigar with a very creamy taste? Price doesn't matter on this one but it would be good if it was under ?20.

Also, I was wondering if anybody could tell me what, in your opinion, is the best Cuban cigar for the least amount of money. Ideally, prices for a single under ?20 also.

Thanks for reading this post, I hope to get in this forum as I learn more about cigars..

    Thanks and regards,

    Rick

Hi Rick, welcome to the forum.

Cohiba Siglo 4 is a cracking smoke for around that price. I know you you said you werent keen on the partagas but the P2 is a cracking full flavour creamy smoke if its got a couple of years on it.
Lover of fine Cubans since 2006

      hey rick,
      welcome to the forum!!!

to answer query no. 1, i'd recommend the h upmann connoisseur no.1 robusto!!! it's creamy alright, and perfect for a beginner IMO!!!

query no. 2....... IMO, the best cuban for the least amount of money has to be the partagas D4, romeo y julieta short churchill or bolivar tubos no.2!!! all 3 are very consistent, quality ways!!! the party D4 and RYJ SC are around ?12, the bolivar tubos 2 is around a tenner!!!

also, why not take advantage of c-gars' sampler packs?

also, familiarize yourself with this site:

      hope this helps,

I agree with the se?or, upmann conny, or perhaps the no 2. They are pure cream and goddess. Can not sing upmann's praises enough.

Thanks everybody for this advice, I'll have a look into these suggestions

The thing I liked about the Cohiba is the "lightness" I experienced when swirling the smoke around. The partagas seemed quite heavy in my mouth, this could be just to inexperience though!

The first third of most upmanns... that lightness is astounding, but can be equally as good in partagas, especially with age - partagas lusitanias! NOM NOM!!
I'd agree on the D4 being one of the best Cubans for under ?20, and would add the Bolivar royal corona & belicosos finos too!

              Cheap and creamy.

The best cigar for me is the H Upmann Sir Winston...,creamy perfection nom nom

The Juan Lopez No.2 offers the most bang for your bucks

My advice is to try absolutely everything. Even when you think you've found your favourite cigar another favourite can be just around the corner....even one you've already tried but didn't love can suddenly become a fave as your palate and wallet changes
This happened with me with Upmann brand over the last year or so...I was previously going for power over finesse before re-discovering them

Welcome Rick, I find the RyJ Petit Corona to be a good smoke at around the ?7/?8 mark, will last an hour if smoked slow, Monty No4 also same sort of money, as previously stated the Partagas Lusitania when properly aged is unbeatable for the money (imo)

                    Greetings Rick

(What a nice, polite young man... and so articulate too! We need more like him!)

I'm flying the flag for the Partagas Serie D Number 4.
A 'benchmark' Cuban and great value (A very distinctive flavour profile - worth a second look).

As others have said though, there's no substitute for 'experimentation'.

                    Have fun and enjoy!

every stick taste a bit different, you hate your first say party4 dones't mean you will never like it, sample a few from different boxes before come to any conclusion.

It's very difficult to recommend any cigar to someone else unless you know them very well as tastes are so varied. That's one of the great things about cigars though, your choices are so personnal and the field is always open for debate. It would be a much less interesting hobby if everyone agreed on the same top 5 cigars. I've yet to be wow'ed by a PSD4 but there are plenty who rave about them and are recommending them to you now.

Stevie's advice about continually rotating what you smoke is great, I didn't like Ramon Allones cigars when I first started smoking but I'm very glad I revisited them occasionally as they have become some of my favourites.

From what you have said, I'll throw in another vote for the H. Upmann Connoisseur No 1 as they are super creamy. I'm also a big fan of the Diplomaticos range if I'm looking for a light and flavourful smoke.

                            !
If you are flying it, I'm running behind waiting to take over.
I'm only 18 myself, and after everyone's comments when I asked something very similar I decided I should give it ago. Since then I have sampler quite a few Cubans and for price point I don't think you can go wrong with a PSD4.

I tend to only smoke 1 or 2 a week, a midweek being a non Cuban typically and then a Cuban at the weekend, I find this being the PSD4 more often than not now due to the length of time smoking it provides being just right for me and the consistency of great flavours every time.

Edit: and a trinidad Reyes, I think everyone should try at least one of these, small smokes but I love the flavours. Personally as someone fairly new i wouldn't want to overload myself with large cigars, I tend to only smoke something large when there's a couple of others smoking them as well, otherwise I end up distracted and wishing I'd had a smaller stick.(just something you may want to bare in mind)

Hello Rick, for me it would be the H Upmann Sir Winston. So creamy you could almost pour it. (Sorry, that was a very lame description).

                              Welcome.
