  • In one, or save some for later........

    Hi Guys,

as you can see this is all new to me, I have a very kind friend who introduced me to cigars about 3 months ago and loving every minute that I get to relax and light up. I do have a question for you all though.

Is it wrong to stub out and return to the cigar later? its not usual routine but my life doesn't seem to give me the free time I require to take on some of the nice smokes I have.

    Comments, suggestions all very welcome.

      'Stub out'...? STUB OUT!!

I'm hoping your choice of words is accidental... for, to 'stub out' a fine 'Puro' is an act of 'gross vandalism' that will almost certainly bring about many years of bad 'ju-ju' (The God of 'smokes' is a vengeful one).

However, to 'accidentally' allow one to go out (i.e. due to excessive 'gas-bagging' ect) is forgiveable... just.
But don't leave it for more than a few minutes.

My names El Cat - and I'm tough on cigar crime.

Hi i have to say please try to refrain from stubbing out a cigar try to choose a smoke which suits the time frame you have to smoke it and smoke it till it burns your fingers and eyebrows off provides your enjoying it then leave it in the ashtray once finished to die in a dignified way.
Though to kind of answer your question if you have to leave a cigar to come back to it for me it wouldnt be any more than half hour though its very rare for me to do so maybe only once or twice ive done this. Im sure there is a definitate time frame which to leave a cigar then go back to it which im sure someone else could verify but for me once i light the cigar i will keep it that way till finished aprt from the odd touch up i suppose, hope this helps

              Thanks for the replies guys,

Puff, like I said I am new to this and crime is not the intention

El Cat, I would like to one day class myself as a "puro", and in everyones journey to perfection there are lessons to learn and mistakes to be made

Mackem Keith, until my collections allow for a selective time smoke I guess I will just have to allow the rest of the world to happen without me, bloody funny with the comment about eyebrows, mine are already rather bushy and I have to ensure that I have wet them as I reach the final flavours from my cigar.

              Thanks and more comments welcome

Well, you know it isn't "wrong" to stub out - but, even the most flavoursome cigar will never taste nearly as good after being relit later. I keep a box of RyJ Puritos for a quick smoke - they're Hamlet sized but have that Cuban aroma to them. Save your best sticks for when you KNOW you'll have time to enjoy them!

Just an issue of terminology, but a "puro" is a Cuban cigar (or, less often, any cigar rolled with tobacco from just one country), not the smoker himself. For your intent, try "aficionado."

I'll chime in with the rest that a re-lit cigar rarely tastes the same, and quite often tastes downright horrible. The only real exception is if it dies out and you re-light it within 15-30 minutes or so. I'll also add my voice to the suggestion to smoke a cigar of a size appropriate to the time you think you have available. Petit coronas are good to fill 30-45 minutes more or less, and something even smaller like the ERdM Demi Tasse would take even less time. Do some investigating and I'm sure you'll find a cigar that you'll be able to finish in time!

No puro should ever be "stubbed out" even when finished with - simply laid down to rest in the ashtray. This is not just etiquette, but for practical reasons- a left stub will go out of it's own accord & stubbing it will only bring cause it to produce clouds of whiify smoke as it's dying breath.

I find the thinner the ring guage, the easier to re-light with fewer ill-effects, which is worth bearing in mind if your smoking session is likely to be interupted. Also, if saving a partly smoked cigar, cutt off all the burnt tobacco and on re-lighting purge* well (* best look up the method on google, but basically burning off any residues etc by blowing through the stick with a jet flame played over the end)

When out walking with the family I will often take a metal tubo with me if there is going to be a break in my smoking. I simply drop the lit cigar in the tubo, with the lack of oxygen it goes out very quickly ready to be relit post coffee for the walk home. Often minimal impact on the stick. Never stub out a cigar.

Snuffsmiff - many thanks for the suggestion, I have looked at these and do seem like a nice addition to my collection.

jesseo81 - what can I say, still leaning terminology and slang

EugeneSax - Purge, I have looked this up, not needed to carry out the method, but will bear it in mind for future smokes.

monkey66 - tubo, sounds like I need to be buying myself one of these, are there many different types?

Again thanks everyone for the informative responses.
