However.... Having corresponded with a couple of top tier scientists who deal with bottany and mycology, I have little hope of mythical plume being real.

It's far more likely to be fungal.... There is also a real chance of it being pretty undesirable to inhale and dont think burning will suffice either.

1: You are still inhaling spores from parts or the cigar which have not yet burned.

2: Many mold spores need to be exposed to high temperature's for 20+ minutes to be destroyed.
you've been quiet for a while! and back with such good news !!

the trick I had with sticks a while back was a gentle wipe down with a tissue soaked in the humidified fluid that is basically distilled water with a trace of anti-fungal...

it worked... the sticks stayed plume free and were not hugely worse for wear... and I am still basically upright and breathing... but it could just be down to better humidor husbandry...

hope you are doin ok pal

Life gets in the way and all that. Hadn't had many sticks for a while and then had a couple recently.

So I'm kind of back on the Cigar train but not on the level I was before.

            Update.....

The retailer, unprompted, has offered to send out 5 more Reyes cigars and reply paid postage to send the other cigars back.....pretty good customer service in my book from them, if you ask me.....

If buying in a shop, I always check, especially in carboard boxes or tubes. But if I had received these I wouldn't personally bothered sending them back. This was a pretty minimal growth & I would have brushed it off with a bristle hog hair art brush. Anyone who says they have never spotted a small amount of mould on their stock, either has a very small stock that can be individually checked regularly or they maintian a <66% humidity but in my experieince, especially during humid weather periods that can easliy rise & cause a minor problem.

Haha! Or a very small stick that they check regularly. I know chico stevienoballs checks his small stick for mold daily...sometimes twice a day!

FOH asked for plume contenders and sent them off for study.....
The idea behind the mould study was to shed some light into the world of mould and plume. Earlier in the year we asked for examples of both from members and then selected 10 representative cigars for testing. Testing was undertaken by the team at Australia Biotech Laboratories. In the event that ...

Looks like while I have been out of the loop, they have achieved what I set out to.

Now im even more certain that bloom/ploom is utter nonsense.
