  • Tenerife - Who Knew?

Im off to Tenerife again at the end of the month. last time i bought just a few cigars at the airport. i remembered they have a different customs amount to other places in Europe and decided to have a google.

Tenerife have there own Cigars - who knew? obviously you guys knew but i hadn't a clue!

anyone have any personal experience on quality, brands and where to buy etc. ill probably get some CC too if the price is right - its 50 only your allowed yes?

Don't bother with the local cigars unless you want something cheap to smoke. Los Christianos has a good cigar shop called Obus, you will need Obus 2 which has the walk in humidor. I bought a box of Quai D'Orsay for 59 Euros in September. You will also find cigars in both upstairs and downstairs Duty Free at Tenerife South if you're flying through there.

Further to the above, at a local crafts event in our hotel a cigar seller had some very obvious fake Cohibas on offer.

That's the one, I always forget the damned name. Look out for QdO 50s at about 60 Euros a box.

Having been there in September I can assure you the prices are good, just fill your boots and buy whatever you want.

I was on La Palma two years ago, where you can't get ANY Cubans at all... none... I looked everywhere... BUT, there is a nice tabacalera, that grows it's own tobacco and makes La Palma puros as long fillers. It's a mixed bag, some of them taste great, others not so much, but the price is great and it's a unique cigar I would always recommend to try.

The cigar is called El Sitio. Look out for it while you are there and buy a single, if only for the novelty.

I was given one for free in Tenerife, 'not so much' as you said

I bought two boxes back then. 2 out of 3 had a nice creamy flavour with nutty notes, but the other 3rd was mostly bitter. I only had one churchill when I was on the island, which was fantastic. The robustos were a bit more mixed.

I remember this from COTM some time back, decent smoke from memory. Packed a fair nicotine punch though.

Correct, I got a second box of robustos for the COTM. I think the reception was mixed, but not generally bad.

I tried a couple of other local cigars from a local manufacturer, but the El Sitio was the only one that was interesting.
