  • Lost in Translation!

    Pregunta, por favor.

For some time now, I’ve noticed the use of the word “bud” or “buddy” around these parts and have always been curious about it’s usage/meaning on that side.

When I hear me yankee amigos use the word, it is often used in a slightly agressive way - “Hey bud! Who do you think are?” Or “What are you looking at, buddy?”

I have a feeling this is not how it is used over their.

Its better than using the Black Country saying of 'mush' to your amigo, they would definitely think your loco

We do use a lot of Americanisms. Like most things the meaning depends on the context. But I think we're less likely to use the word buddy in an aggressive or warning context. English is a colourful and expressive language we'd use many other nouns first.

However we are more likely to use the word mate in this context. When we're not being particularly imaginative.
