If you have multiple AV installed uninstall them all (the built in AV will be fine for testing) reboot after uninstalling if it doesnt do it automatically.

test if you can get on if not come back

I tried to roll back but it would not complete the process (sorry, Mo. Didn’t see your post). Whatever has infected my PC, it’s keeping me from fixing it.

I’ve been working with a networking and Windows OS expert this afternoon with tons of experience in security. We are diving deep into the system and taking a methodical step-by-step process to find culprit and solve my internet connection issues.

I’ll post up the solution when we get there. More work to be done tonight and tomorrow, no doubt.

Names Jay, Ray Jay and I’m letting my geek hat fly!

What version of win10 are you using type winver into the search box it will show.
was the computer doing an update the last time it worked properly.
its unlikely that a virus has cut off your internet access most virus’s want you to use the internet not block you.
can you access the router config page from a browser.
do you have access to another pc to download a bit of software.
have you tried rebooting into safe made with networking.

I'd do what Sham said - try pinging www.google.com and 8.8.8.8 from a command prompt and see what it returns with

Well, boys, with the assistance of the Master Tech, we did all those things listed above and then some. And after spending the entire night (into the wee small hours of the morning) working remotely with the Master Techfrom the not-so-great land to the norte , we finally got the beast to load websites. Halleluhja!

              How was it done?

Well, I?ll tell ya?. After some mucking about in the PC beast, I fired up an old Dell PC hard wired to the router and dusted off a laptop I found lying about. I later learned it was the very same laptop don TJ?s poser took with him on the innagural 2009 London Cigar Walk. Anyway, both of these units we able to connect to the interwebs, so we crossed the router off the list of possible trouble maker. We then spent the rest of the evening looking at this, removing that, running this program and that program (Oh! And btw, this lad hates the spyware programs I had on my machine, like Spybot and S&D, among other downloaded programs I cherish, for reasons I can talk about later if anyone is interested).

So, after several exhusting hours and many expressos, we went back to the ?roll back? program to see what?s happening there, and to our pleasant surprise, it worked this time! We were able to roll back to 9/25/18. Success! The PC is connecting to the interwebs again. Whew!

Next week the master tech and I will return to the beast to do a thorough clean-up. Gee, I can hardly wait...

Thanks for all the advise, UKCF Master Ba....errr, I mean, TECHS!

Name Jay, Ray Jay, and I?m taking the rest of the day off.

Well to be honest I cant believe this sort of sh!t still happens to Windows. They have forever been suffering this sort of problem. This is what eventually drives people to look to Mac. Just for an alternative.

I'm glad you are back online, however be mindful that without knowing the root cause, this will likely happen again

Testify, brother. Truer words could not be spoken.

Finding the original culprit is why we will be doing a thorough cleaning of the beast next week. The MT pointed to several programs, including the very tempting “free” downloads, on my PC that need to be rubbed out. Part of the reason it took so long fixing my PC was becasue I had to listen to endless lectures about risky behavior on the interwebs and all the bad guys and their “free” downloads, including downloads from Cnet. If I had a rope handy I’d hung myself!

BTW, muchacho, your over-the-top use of smileys reminds me don TJ’s posts in the early days, the glory days, of the UKCF. He was famous for his keen use/overuse of smileys.

Names, Jay, Ray Jay, and I’ll be getting more lectures this week about “risky behavior.”

                    The Devil?s Triangle?

                    Epilogue:

In the after-action report issued my my Master Tech, he concluded that the most likely culprit that prevented websites from loading was.....KASPERSKY!

At his recommendation, I contact Kaspersky and they upgraded me to the latest protection (2019 version)

                    The End...or is it?

Names, Jay, Ray Jay, and I’m back in the saddle again!
