  • Noise cancelling headphones

I'm looking for a pair of good noise cancelling headphones. So far looking at SONY WH-1000XM2 which are stupid expensive in the coming weekend sales at 200?

    Anyone recommend anything else?

I do like a good dynamic range in music. Will probably use infrequently when I need some peace and quiet and listen to music traveling around.

My current headphones are PX200. Very old and trusty. But nightmare to drive. Only get some half decent sound out of them with top quality recordings playing at full volume on my phone with the equaliser pushed up on the low freq.

Never owned noise cancelling phones before.

    Thanks!

I was looking at the AKG N60NC
the other day in the sale. What HiFi 5 star and an award winner.

    Currently ?99 in richer sounds:

I wondered about the on/over ear thing. I expect the over ear are better for noise isolation?

I'll try to listen to a couple of my local store has any to try.

      Cheers.

          I have 2 pairs of ear/head phones.

          1. Bose QC 25's -Noise cancellation

          2. SHURE SE535 Noise Isolation

Both are great phones with fantastic sound and sound stage.

Bose are used in the house and the Shure are used when out and about and in the office

It all depends on what purpose you want them to serve out and about or indoors.

Have a look at the Shure 235 in ear if that's what your after, the Bose are expensive I agree but a deal might be had on Black Friday

The new model Sony XM3 are not discounted near me. Surprise... But I did get to try them. Impressive noise cancelling!

Sony, Bose and Sennheiser pretty much run the noise canceling market.

Think hard if you want noise canceling though as you can IMO get better headphones for less money without it.... Obviously the qualitative assessment of better means nothing if you NEED the noise canceling.

But look for brands like; Shure, AKG, Grado, Bayerdynamic, Audio-Technica and the previously mentioned Sennheiser and you won't be far off.

I personally stay away from Bose, purely because I won't support any audio manufacturer that refuses to publish the specs of their equipment.

I bought some of these last month - https://www.bose.co.uk/en_gb/product...l#v=qc30_black

They are amazing, my commute is so much nicer now. Pricey at ?249, but well worth it. Battery lasts over ten hours too.

I think I am after the noise cancelling. These are probably going to be used for train commutes during winter. And maybe occasionally for quiet work time when there's background noise. So there's always going to be outside noise anyway.

                  I'm not an audiophile.

See a guy on the tube this morning with ear defenders on and wires coming probably from his in ear phones! [emoji16]

That's 2.99 for the big orange ear defenders and whatever for the headphones!

Ok it's not active noise cancelling. But good idea lol

Bose products have always been worth the money in my experience. Great quality and they last.

No one said they were, if you read it you'll see it was in reply to Banos' post not the noise cancelling topic images-1.jpeg

I have a set of bose q25 wired version for few years, I wouldn't go on a flight without them. Thoroughly recommended.

Looking at these but the wireless ones. For the money they seem great.
