Why do you love cigars?

Having just enjoyed a H.Upmann LE 2009 and then read another thread 'tobacco and the soul', I find myself wondering what I like most about my trusted friend.

I enjoy many things, the appearance, the smell, the taste, the feel in the hand, the way I feel after and even small, maybe slightly obscure details like watching how the thick white/blue smoke travels off into the distance on a sunny day [yes I know they tend to be rare].

Most of all though, above all else, I think I appreciate the actual act itself. By that I mean the dedication of time to enjoyment and relaxation. A break in your day, your task, your activity, to take the time to reward yourself with a pause in time.

So....

What do you like the most about your cigar experience??

I love everything that goes with smoking a cigar. But mostly, I love the excitement I get when I have a good cigar planned. For example, it could be Monday, and I'll be looking forward all week to sitting down for an hour and half with a Partagas Serie D on Saturday. Due to limited funds at the moment every time I smoke a cigar it's a big deal to me, and I love every minute.

I love the feel of the cigar in my hands, I love the fact that I am smoking something that has a history, that has been grown from the earth, and made by hand for my enjoyment. I love the relaxation time while smoking....I love EVERYTHING. And if it isn't obvious, I'm due a cigar!

theres so much that i could say but ill try and keep it short......

1- i have to smoke out side and when i first started smoking cigars i used to come in and my girl friend always asked what i was grinning about. I had no idea that i was smiling i just knew i had this warm content feeling ( now we refer to it as my cigar high).

2-its my time for solace and contimplation, as a dad of 2 ( a 6 year old and a 9 month old, both girls) i find that my time is no longer my own. That is except for MY cigar time when i go and sit outside or more likley at the moment, in the shed.

3- it satifys my addictive personality, im not talking about the nicotine but just the fact of the huge variaty and the the quest to find a new favorite ( i also keep a cigar band book for all the cigars i have smoked, which keeps me buying singles and not just sticking to faves).

4-i dont care what anyone says it looks cool

5- its a multi sensory pleasure explosion. the look of beautiful cigar is unquestionable ( the best looking i have found so far being the rocky patel decade toro which is so pretty i cant bring my self to smoke just yet!), the feel of a cigar in my hand, the roar of my torch lighter, that great aroma and most of all if its a good one- a taste that is out of this world!

6-it just keeps getting better, i have loved cigars from my very first one ( a monte petit corona) but as i have revisited this cigar and others i have smoked before, i keep noticing new tastes and flavours as my pallet improves. this combined with the varity that comes from the year of production as well as new releases, LE, RE and all the different sizes mean it never becomes boring.

i said id keep it short so im gonna leave it there, please forgive me if ive waffled on as ive had a few to drink and for the spelling ( which has nothing todo with the drink).
For me the difference between a hobby and a passion is a hobby you can bring out and put away when ever you choose but a passion is always (even if its at the back of your mind) there.....

So I've smoked one cigar, right, (Romeo y Julieta Petit Julieta). The taste of the thing still hovers with me like a night spent with a beautiful woman, as far fetched as that might sound. Hope to savour a good amount more, with each taking its place stored away in this self-yearning, newly created mental "cigar datavault" as it were. As crass a description - you probably know what I'm getting at here...

I've just had the one stogie. To have had many, to pick on a whim just the right cigar for a particular scenario, and savour its greatness, is very appealing. Not all cigars may be great, but the adventure starts here!!!

For me it's one of the few times when i really relax, sit back in a chair with a rum and let the world drift by.

It's like a puzzle where I try to distinguish the subtle flavours and the individual nuances of each stick.

I enjoy the preparation, the touch, the look the feel, the prelight draw and that building excitement of "what's next"

I love the looks, i have passed on cigars in the past due to the band looking out of place but have also sat there bouncing waiting to try a new addition purely as it looks so damn good.

When you go to a good shop, and are treated to a fine rum, a good coffee and a fine cigar the rest of the world just disappears for an hour or two, simply wonderful.

I find smoking a cigar a very relaxing thing to do.

For me it is the fact that smoking the cigar is the activity in itself and not something I do when I am doing something else.

Smoking on holiday is even better because there really isn't anything else you could be doing other than smoking the cigar.

I take time to stop everything, to smell and taste the cigar as well as listen and watch as the world goes by.

It is a very pleaseurable hour or so that doesn't leave you tired, stressed or worrying about anythign else.

Well sir, it's been written that Cuban soil contains a trace element I like to call...LITHIUM! And somehow, this lovely metallic element finds it's way into the tobacco leaves used to make the fine puros that we all enjoy. Imagine that!
Now, you all know me, I'm just a simple mexicant hiding from immigration....errrr, I mean, living in SOM, MX! But even I know that putting something in writing doesn't necessarily make it so. Based on my personal experience and those of la familia Coro, however, I believe this to be true because no cigar, zilch, nada, that I've ever smoked satisfies like a fine Habana puro, including the very best NCs I've enjoyed!
