One of my favourite smokes in that price bracket is the Trindad Robusto Extra which is now discontinued but still available thanks to H&F holding a decent amount of stock. I bought a box while I still could as doubt they'll be around much longer cos they're so good. ?23.49 a stick http://www.humibros.com/product/trinidad-robusto-extra/

Cubans are nothing special man, they're great cigars yeah but there are just as good elsewhere.Originally posted by Puff Scotty View PostPunch DC..get a good one & they're hard to beat...same as most Cubans..
Agree with Alex on the "Sir Winston" but again I have had a mediocre stick or two..
Some cracking smokes too be had cheaper..with Cigars price/bling doesn't necessarily reflect a quality smoke..
As for paying ?20-?30 for a NC you guys mus be smoking something??

Or go for an EL which would have been aged already for two years before production and just pick out one of the older EL's? Punch SDN1 was a good regional from 5 years backOriginally posted by Sligub View PostThe problem with most things in this price bracket is you need age, they're not instant gratification. Better to ask your merchant what he's got with 5+ years on it and pick from that selection.

The tobacco has been aged two years not the stick, most regular production stuff uses aged tobacco. Its the time since rolling thats most important.Originally posted by Ethem View PostOr go for an EL which would have been aged already for two years before production and just pick out one of the older EL's? All I can really say to that comment is, allow your palate to develop..I'm not a cigar snob, neither, with only 40 years smoking cigars, do I claim to be an aficionado but, having sampled a few hundred NC's from all over the world in the past few years including most premium lines I will definitely say IMHO you can never get "just as good elsewhere"...I'm not knocking NC's, you just shouldn't try to compare totally different animals...Originally posted by Zebedee View PostCubans are nothing special man, they're great cigars yeah but there are just as good elsewhere.

Yes, have to agree also. In terms of palate, my experience with many NCs has been that first off the bat, almost always, tastes a tad acrid. I'm talking sticks that are commonly held as middle road ($6-$15). However, after the first (and without a Cuban in between) my palate adjusts somewhat, and some taste more pleasant. For me, as the guys above, on average and across the board, they don't come close. I've many NCs and dip in but there's few that satisfy me the way a Cuban does, cried the vicar."Go you good things...geddem int'ya"
