Well....I had a few Hamlets at Christmas with my dad starting about 20 years ago.
Then about 15 years ago someone brought me back a cigar from Cuba..not sure what it was....I didn't know what I was doing when cutting it and the whole thing unwrapped.
Then 5 years agoish I started smoking the odd Toscano when over in Italy (The Mrs is Italian so we go over 2 or 3 times a year)
Then last year had a RyJ tubo2 and really got the bug.
does the Mrs know about your leather clad weekend escapades at the blue oyster
Had a few puffs on a King Edward as a kid but started smoking a couple of Hamlets on New Year's Eve with my friends. Branched out to Montecristo Minis about once a week with another friend at Uni then kinda exploded from there.
just out of interest, what was your first pipe tobacco?
Mine was the nightcap... It almost knocked me out when I first tried! But now I love it, along with other heavy latakia blends
Had a few of Hamlets in my teens-in clubs etc just cause I thought I was cool.
My first proper Cuban was a Julieta No 2-bought a box of 10 at Dubai Airport on the way back from Australia on a school rugby tour when I was 18!
Didn't really get into it until I was about 22 when my housemates bought me a few at for birthday. Started researching more, think it was the simply cigars website and it took off from there. Liked all the rituals and paraphernalia that went with it.
Started reading the cigar-reviews.org website and a few others and started buying singles of sticks I liked the sound of, which I still do to this day!
In terms of pipes-it's a tradition at my rugby club to bring a pipe whenever we have a stag do/tour etc, I bought a cheap pipe online and the first tobacco I bought was a cherry vanilla and then some Holger Danske Black Bourbon I think. Then after more research I moved onto a Peterson pipe and tried a few of their blends and settled on the 2012 special reserve which is great!
oh how how far back.. my first taste of a cigar was walking along the city centre and smelling this exquisite sweet aroma, I just followed that guy for like 10 mins in stalker mode smelling the air like a freak lol. I was only about 10 years old but never forgot how that cigar smelled and almost tasted.
fast forward 20 years and the same happened, I didn't follow this time lol, but that smell took me back to being a 10 year old in the 80's again and i wanted to know more, tried a Churchill and promptly threw up, gave it a few months and tried a mild cafe cr?me again after reading up in the library ( before internet) liked it this time.
slowly been learning since then

The first tobacco I tried was Whiskey Flake which I bought from a local shop saying it was for my father. Also tried Three Nuns, St. Bruno and Condor early on but my favourite tobacco to smoke when I was young was Gold Block.

Are the Ogden tobaccos still in tins when you bought them? They are very different from the ones now produced by the Scandinavian group, old English taste is long gone...

First pipe tobacco I tried was St Bruno. Never really a fan of it. Went on to Kendal Black Cherry and Yachtsman (still both favourites). Now tend to smoke Condor long cut, Punchbowle and Dunhill 965.
