Someone just posted this article on another forum about what might happen when the embargo ends - I found it quite an interesting read so thought I'd repost in here

It will be interesting to see what will happen to the number of CCs here when the US market starts to legally get access to them

Interesting. But it can't happen without a Presidential Decree, which is unlikely to happen soon, because whoever is President has to overthrow the original Embargo decree made by JFK who is still an icon in US politics. Obama hasn't the same clout, Hillary Clinton possibly .... but Castro has to be dead first.

That was a nice little read, I think the Fuente thing is a bit telling though. How his family has been saying for fifty five years that this year will be the year the embargo ends.

You have a lot of faith in the sellers' integrity Sean. This is the country where the president imported thousands of Cuban cigars before signing the embargo remember. Not much of an example.

Perhaps, but more likely the reason the embargo remains in place, according to me amigos americanos, is nothing more than politics - The Cuban expats living in the US (mainly Florida) weild such clout that it would be political suicide to go against their interests, which is to keep the embargo in place.

The current US administration has come the closest to abandoning the embargo by lifting some travel and trade restricitions, but el Presidente has fallen short of deliveing the promised land to me americano BOTLs, as many believed/hoped he would.

But what the Hell do I know! After all, I'm just a lonely dawg-faced emoticon with clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, living in me beloved SoM, MX.
