Cigar scissors?

Having always used a two bladed cutter to snip the tops off of my cigars ,I have been using a pair of cigar scissors for the last month and actually now prefer to use this method of cutting.

I have found that I can attain a cleaner cut as compared to my old style conventional twin bladed cutter.

Has anyone else tried this method and found it to be any better?

I used mainly double-edge cutters for years and scissors now and again but frequently the cigar would end up crushed and split at the cap....then I tried a punch and have never looked back. The only downside to a punch cut is that the smaller hole sometimes channels dark 'spit-juice'...blurgh

Back to your point though Craig, I think the scissors allow you more accuracy as you can see what you're doing much easier..you need very sharp scissors though. What brand are you using?

Is there much difference between a cutter and a punch, I'm interested in getting a punch. I generally get a clean cut but sometimes I get the wrapper peeling off as I'm smoking it.
I guess it would seem less like an offensive weapon if I took it out also

I've always used double bladed cutters until last week when I bought a new lighter which as a built in punch and now I don't think I'd go back to cutting at all.

I'm not sure if it's psychological or not but the smoke just seems 'better' I can't quite put my finger on what it is but I prefer it, I guess it's a but like the Pepsi challenge ?!

We at the UKCF have had many discussions in recent Forum history on the fine art, ritual actually, of cutting cigars here and here.

Over the years, I have used many types of puro cutting devices, including the scissor-type cutters. Unfortunately, my experience with the scissor cutter is the same as young Stevenboy. Good for show, not for go .

My preference is a quality punch with a sharp blade, and when that won't do or provide adequate draw, I go for my trusty Cuban Crafters cutter. A UKCF "best product" in 2009 and a favorite among many here at the UK Cigar Forum.

Occasionally, however, when I want to alter my puro smoking ritual, I will Go to the Scissors.

Names TJ, TJCoro, and I've been punching my fine puros since 1933.

Not sure of the make , as they were a present.I think they are a German brand but what I like is the clean cut.They are seriously sharp.

Never tried a punch or scissors, always used a good quality double edged cigar cutter.

I may have to give the punch a go, as judging by the reviews it does seem to be cleaner somehow!

Big differance between the two. Buy an inexpensive punch and you will see .

When at work I use a utility knife and put an X in the cap. This to me is a great way to cut. If its a sandwich style cigar it keeps all the filler in check. If its a premium it make for a good draw. Just my $.02

big difference in taste between a double blade cutter and a punch cutter (IMHO) a punch cutter is a lot stronger in the 2nd half due to the hole size, and the fact that you tend to sit the cigar slightly on the tip of your tongue more with a punch cut, as you don't need to worry about over wetting restricting the draw - this concentrate's the smoke over the centre of the tongue slightly changing taste, I have a large and small size, good for milder larger cigars.

Although I have a punch, I'll stick to my Palio, a clean cut every time.
