All of the above for me, but primarily it's relaxation and I find the ritual of smoking (selecting a stick, what to drink with it, punch or cut etc) to be part of that. Then there's the time it takes; even the shortest cigar means 45 minutes to myself.
More recently though it's the whole cultural/hobby aspect - what started 4 months ago as buying a few sticks to enjoy has evolved into (this month) spending close to ?300 on cigars and related paraphernalia (I seriously need to cut back or my Wife will cut my nuts off), so while I don't find the smoking aspect addictive, everything else about this "hobby" is.
From reading all the above statements and the general consensus from a lot of you that it's the ritual hobby aspect good for you all , but hate to say this chaps but your all living in denial smoking is addictive simple fact sorry to burst your bubbles

Gonna have to get a t shirt cigar smoker and proud
Go for it! I've just gotten the Cgars t-shirt - Keep calm and Have a Cigar!
Why do I smoke? Cause I bloody love it! I've been smoking for about 4-5 years. I smoked cigars before I smoked cigarettes and have been trying to give up cigarettes. I've had times before when i've given up and dropped back but now I smoke a cigar a bit more regularly as my treat and for the most part I don't smoke cigarettes anymore (bar the 10-pack I had on Saturday but shhh....don't tell the missus!). The trouble with smoking is in every way - I love it, I love the stress release, the time to yourself, I love the taste! For me, cigars are the highest enjoyment of smoking, superb quality taste, the time to relax and have some time to yourself with nobody to disturb you. What could be better?

To be fair, anything can be addictive if it's enjoyable
An interesting question Groundhog. These days it's usually why don't you give up? When I stated smoking the occasional cigar, it was always with a pint or two in a pub. Then I started smoking cafe creams whilst fishing. I thought if I restricted them to only the days when I caught something, I was never gonna get through too many (not with my success rate anyway) & they would be like an instant reward. Once I got into Havanas things got deeper & instead of going out for a really nice meal & then ending it with a cigar, I got to the stage of having a meal to go with my choice of Havana & eating & drinking what I thought would go with it best.
I do relax when smoking but something no one mentioned was the excitement of looking fwd to my next smoke. Even when I am on my own & could smoke more frequently I like to have a gap of a few days between smokes & then I'd rather have a couple that day than one every day or every other day. It seems I need to build up my desire level. Then there's the hobby side, as you know I collect far more than I am able to smoke but then at the back of my mind I think, one day I won't be able to afford these & at least my humi's will still be full.
The pleasure of meeting like minded souls & I guess these days, there's a slightly rebellious side to it all, not conforming, making a stand & being slightly different. The Mr Average & Mr Norm are the most boring bast&ds this side of naggers!

Id say the fact aswell, that its something which in general, only gets better with age, its not like buying a tv or a car which will almost certainly depreciate, a good cigar will almost always hold its value or even increase and more importantly, increase in its most valuable trait, its taste!
Like many people have alluded to, I smoke cigars for the relaxation and opportunity to appreciate an organic piece of craftsmanship. I like everything that goes with it too though. I like togging up in my smoking jacket, I like the deliberation of what to choose. I like the act of preparing and lighting the cigar, and trying to tease out the subtleties of flavour. Then of course, there are forums like this, where we can share notes and make new friends with like-minded people, and the whole world of cigar shops and herfs and the way your heart leaps when you see a stick that you thought was long since unavailable, or a new release that you are aching to try..I think few hobbies allow such complete immersion, and that's why I love smoking cigars.

Anything is addictive to a weak mind...... Simply put, I am not addicted and never will be addicted to any substance.... I absolutely refuse to be.
P.S. I don't live in denial of anything.

Yup. I agree Marc. I can (and have) gone on deployments and not touched a cigar for 7/8 months. I'm not addicted to nicotine nor any other chemicals in cigars - it's the ritual that I'm addicted to if anything...long may it continue!

My Father smoked 60 cigarettes a day. Was told by the Doc to quit, came home, smoked one more and never had another. If he could do that I can stop smoking Cigars no problem.... I do have periods when I don't smoke at all. But then holidays I have one each day at least... It's no problem to me.
