Tapes are out and CD's are now in Hampshire. We're working towards digital files for court etc so this is the way to go.

Anyway tapes break and are so 1980's that most new police recruits say "what are these?" makes me feel old.

The main reason it has taken this long is that we bought all the tapes we could when they stopped mass producing them, so a warehouse full of tapes was not going to just get binned.

Anyway Polaroids were rubbish pics, digital camera evidence has been so much better for the interviewer and for court.

Didn't you just write it on the back of a fag packet?

Nope, four lines on a fixed penalty notice was enough for me!

Luckily we have tape transcribers for CC jobs, very quick SDN for the other files.

We always have to bang the tapes on the table to free them up before using them, they are cack

See that's the thing modern torches are much better than the old maglights but much less heft for 'other uses'

Good thread to restart, I seemed to have missed it first time around. I'd have the Young Winston & listen to his tales of his early life & escaping from the Boers. Another smoke with Nic Wing would be wonderful & whilst we are bring up the departed, to enjoy one in my parents garden with my Father. He never smoked but put up with my Mother's smoking for nearly 40yrs before she finally gave up & wouldn't mind sitting next to me whilst I smoked a Epi' No2 & I could tell him how well his granddaughter is doing.

I would like to smoke a cigar with my maternal great grandfather who as well as being a cigar smoker - according to my Aunt, was also a carpenter in the Naval dockyard at Porstmouth. I have a couple of his old tools, but sadly most of his old wooden planes were disposed of by my late Uncle who inherited them. I would be fascinated to hear some of his stories about the work he did on boats at the turn of the last century.
