What are the advantages / disadvantages of boxed pressed cigars, i know it may not change the flavour of the cigar or how it smokes compared
to a round cigar.Iv'e heard wether true or not a cigar being boxed pressed you get a slightly tighter draw.
Why not say make the box slightly bigger so they all fit nicely.

Box pressed cigars don't roll off the table! Unknown-2.jpeg

I can't see the point of the cigar rollers rolling the perfect cigar only to be squared off.
I know it's personal choice but think i'd go for round cigars rather than the squared ones.

It does change the flavour slightly. If you are a NC smoker and want an example of this - smoke a Tatuaje Cojonu 2003 and then smoke a Cojonu 2012 (natural). Same cigar, just box pressed.

For the most part though, it is cosmetic.

My personal preference is for a mildly box-pressed cigar. In my experience (entirely anecdotal) I've found them to be a little more consistent, with nice burns and even draws. As I say though, entirely anecdotal and could be purely a figment of my imagination based on my prejudices given a preference for them. Could also be that I like the naturally box-pressed, which tends to develop over time...

That said... I'm not such a fan of the aggressively box-pressed cigar; the ones which are practically square really look and feel a little odd to me.

To be honest only smoke cuban cigars just don't make any sence to me why roll nice cigars only to be squared off
surely they can make the boxes slightly bigger.

Having them in my humidor would give me sleepless nights even if they taste awesome
to me a cigar should be round the way they are rolled what ever the shape .

Some very old cabinet sticks end up with all sort of multi-faceted box press shapes.

I have a '98 box of Lusi's that have become fairly square over the years and they are stunning smokes.

Some people believe that less air between cigars in a box can have a positive effect on ageing. I don't know.
Box pressed cigars will have less air between them than round ones.
It's most likely that box pressing came about because the same sized cigar could be sent in a slightly smaller box. Thus cheaper packaging and shipping.
I don't mind box pressed Cubans like the Royal Corona etc. in dress boxes.
The heavily box pressed non-Cubans however, not really my thing. I find the shape a bit odd.

And some box pressed cigars return to round from the heat and handling anyway
