  • thinking of making my own humidor

Been thinking about the tuppadore thing as my thread from yesterday had a quick browse and noticed something cool. theres a place in the states that makes humidors out of old Ammunition tins. i think this will be pretty cool and a nice little project for me. Anyone else made their own?

Just had a quick search on this, and that would be pretty simple and fairly cheap to do.... Ammo tins are readily available from most military surplus stores around the country, I bought my nephew one last year and it was about ?15.

I'm guessing the the cedar veneer would be most suitable to line the tin. Maybe someone else will be able to clarify that a bit more.

Have you done a search on here, I'm sure we have talked about this before, we'll not using an ammo tin. I think a stumbling point is getting enough Spanish cedar wood, unless you use the thin strips that come in boxes. But good luck look forward to seeing the results, sound a great Idea!

In the past I've only glanced at these as a potential option, are they air tight-ish?

From the ones I have just seen, they have put a rubber seal around the edge. And with the lever locking mechanism it certainly does look air and watertight.

Depends on the ammo box some are watertight as standard.

                        What's quarter inch, about 6mm?

If so I'd have thought that would be perfect, although possibly too thin for shelving, unless you double it up.

saying that once lined might be a bit small internally
