I'm not sure that cigar shrinkage is a sign of good aging I just think it's a consequence. I've a few oldish cigars and the bands are so tight they might as well be welded.

A purpose of tubes is to 'slow age', so shrinkage is likely to be less pronounced.

Can you explain what you mean tippexx when you say you think it's a consequence.

Conversely the first BHK I took out of its box and took on holiday with me wouldn't go back in the box afterwards as it had swollen slightly. It was transported in a travel humidor too.

That doesn't surprise me. If you've ever taken all the cigars out of a box to inspect them or rotate them it's always a job to get them back in .... it's like the box has suddenly lost an eighth inch of the width!

Totaly agree with you on that one but can you explain why the ones in the tubes which are different brand but same year haven't shrunk.

They're not all 60 grams, there's two sizes, small and large.

Yes i know PJ i was on about the larger size the 60grm pouches.
Be nice to know how tommy does the boiling water bit to recharge the boveda pouches without the outside getting saturated with condensation.

UV light breaks down cigars. Better opaque. I keep my tupperdores in black Habano bags.

But can you imagine having that thing in your smoking shed or room or whatever. Turned into a proper fridge ador and the pepsi crap covered or removed and it all nicely stocked!

For what it's worth from my experience.

I never think about shrinkage.

18 month is a very short period in ageing cigars.

No non professional hydrometer is consistent.

UV is the least of your worries if you are storing in direct sunlight.

For me 64-67ish is the sweet spot for smoking CC's.

There is so much pseudo science talked about in this hobby, I say stick em in a box then smoke em 🙈🙉🙊
