i quit smoking everything for best part of a decade and kept my humidor in good health, and in the winter now rejoined the herf! Luckily that means i have a bunch of aged smokes to enjoy, mostly partagas d4, and a few cohiba siglo various, and a couple of epi2's. But i'm looking for a smart idea for the smoke on my impending 40th....

welcome your ideas on a 'special' celebration smoke!

thx
Matt

I have a single VI and a single IV.... Was thinking new purchase but your comments made me rethink....My p2's are smoking well after this age gap. The age seems to have given them a calmer edge.

hadnt thought of the cohibas... But now thinking hard on them! Thx for the recommendation!

If you've got it, I'd also say the Siglo VI Matt: especially with the age on it

Hate to jump in on this. But I keep toying with a VI. Is it worth grabbing one (as a man on a very tight budget). I personally put my vote on an aged D4. But it is my favourite cigar as some of you know.

If your budget is that tight then go with what you like

If your budget is tight then stay away from Cohiba. I really don't think they are worth the premium

I would suggest anything that has been sitting, well maintianed for 10 years should be a good smoke. Another vote for the Sig VI here.

On one hand I am delighted I might already have the answer in the humi. On the other I was kinda hoping to use the occasion as an excuse to buy! No need though so that's never bad news!

I might make it a multiple smoke day... and go for both! I had a mild smoke not so long ago (upmann petit c) and found it toothless. The cohiba with a partagas later on after dinner ought to be a nice days work!!

Cheers guys!

If it's to smoke straight away, I'd defiantly ask in a store if they have any that have a bit of age on them. Otherwise I'm with Wigan, theres better value smokes.

We don't do excuses not to buy here, so:

Buy yourself a nice 10 box, splash out as much as you're comfortable with, put them away for one year and smoke one each year (the first on your 41st, 2nd on your 42nd & so on), giving you another nice 10 year old smoke on your 50th.

davpyr.jpg so no-one needs to see a pic of an old siglo VI.... although I retraced my steps and figure it was bought in 1998, regrettably the date stamp on the box is long forgotten/ gone! But the pic is a hand rolled Davidoff pyramides ... Felix Padilla (sp?) a gigantic man with huge spades for hands one of the Davidoff master rollers at the time was doing demos in Harrods. For a huge man, his hands were so deft and flowed over the leaf. He had a small selection of moulds with him, and was itching to make pyramides but hadn't brought the mould. So asked if I could get him a newspaper, which I did and he promptly used the first 4 pages of to make into a mould and made this beautiful smoke! I also have a long lancero style stick that he made which I will save some more. There were others, but I smoked them green as green could be - a very different and enjoyable experience!

I think this chap has aged long enough, and will be dust come Friday!!
