The answer is getting a piece of kit that allows more control wiggy. As mentioned earlier, folk do vacuum (though I've not heard anyone on here), but you've got to get the process right as Joss' trial clearly illustrates. Then, sit back for X years and see if you personally prefer the smokes post deep-sleep. It's an experiment in itself I think.

What's needed is a vac packer that has either variable strength suction and/or a separate control for when the heat sealer switches on.

I have had vacuum packed singles from a supplier can't remember which one.

Surely the Hoovered variety storage bags would do the same long term job and not so savage

One supplier I use sends out boxes vacuum packed

Maybe the content prevents that happening when full
