  • Have I just bought fake Partagas?

    Hi,

To celebrate a friend's house being sold today, we decided at the last minute to grab a couple of nice cigars to have a celebration smoke tonight. It was too late to get them ordered, so I did the rounds of the two local shops that I know sell Cubans. Unfortunately both were out of stock, so I went to the other shop I know which is slightly further afield.

I was in a bit of a rush to be honest as I hadn't paid for parking and the wardens are hot, took a quick glance at the shops meagre looking selection and my eyes settled on the Partagas bands of a couple of big sticks. I took two of them without really taking too much time.

Now that I have them home and had a proper look at them in the light, I have doubts.

The first is that both caps appear to be different in size. The second is that the band has "Culebras" at the top. The third is that they appear quite bumpy and not smooth as such. They are both straight (relatively), so I'm not actually sure what I have bought. Do Culebras have individual bands on their cigars? The images I've found on google indicate no as it's one band around the 3 twisted cigars.

Do I smoke them, or go back to the shop and turn the bloke who sold the to me, upside down?

Did you buy them from a tobacconist in the UK? I wouldn't be too worried if you did - the importers have a where to buy section on the website, check if your supplier is listed there: http://www.cigars.co.uk/where-to-buy/

Just out of curiosity does the band definitely say culebras? Might it say Cifuentes?

I'll check. This fella has been going about 90 odd years but he died a couple of years ago and his son took over.

I agree. Not sure what to do. Maybe smoke and simply make sure I buy from the usual supects next time.

Go back and have some words with him...especially if he's in on the hf list!!
If his stock counterfeit hf should be notified.

The only band with Culebras on is a large band that wraps around 3 Culebras cigars

                        i call fake

check out Cuban Cigar Website for all the bands

maybe info you can relate to the seller , good luck .

Very suspect looking 'straight' culebras, get back to shop and confront him...

There no need to panic just yet, the bands look genuine, just on the wrong cigar, this could be put down to 'Cuba being Cuba', it is certainly worth discussing with the supplier though, what are the cigars meant to be? Did he sell them as culebras?
